How to move Steam Games to another HARD DRIVE / FOLDER

Hey RijoGamers, in today’s tutorial I want to teach you how to Move Steam Games to another Hard Drive / Folder in a very easy and fast way.

Whether it’s because we don’t have space on our main drive or any other reason, it sounds complicated to move our hard drive games and more if there are many.

Thinking about what I mentioned above, surely the following question must be coming to you:

Do I have to uninstall the game to move it from disk?

The answer, dear friend, is no, it is not necessary to uninstall your game to move it from disk, since Steam makes things very easy for us.

Since previous versions of Steam, moving games to another drive is possible, but in the updated version in 2022 it is even easier.

All we have to do is tell the app which disk we want to use, we can even indicate a custom folder and then move your games in a few steps.

Are games lost when moving Steam Games to another drive or folder?

Also for this, dear friend, the answer is a resounding NO. Your game will move and your game progress will remain as it was before you switched the game to another unit.

TEXT TUTORIAL: How to move STEAM Games to another HARD DRIVE / FOLDER – UPDATED 2023

I’ll show you how to add your hard drive to steam, and then I’ll show you 2 ways to move your game to that hard drive:

  1. Open your Steam app
  2. Go to the top menu and click on Steam and then on parameters.
  3. In the window that opens, find on your left Downloads and click
  4. In the new options that will appear on your right click on Steam Library Folders
  5. A new window will open where you can see the drives or hard drives where you already have games installed.
  6. To add the new unit or disk, click on the little button in the shape of +
  7. In the new window that opens you will have a list of the units that you can add.
    1. You can choose one and hit the Add button and Steam will automatically create a folder and add the hard drive.
    2. You can add a custom folder by clicking the Let Me Choose Another Location option (which is in the list of drives) and then clicking the Add button:
      1. Then a new window will open
      2. In the window above choose the drive where you want to create the folder
      3. Then press the button called Create Folder
      4. In the window that opens, type the name of the folder and click OK
      5. The window will close and the folder you created will be selected. If not, select it and press the Select button
      6. Done, we have already added that new unit and you will see that it will appear along with the others.
  8. Now click on the drive where your game is.
  9. Find the game or games you want to move, and click the little box next to the name to select it.
  10. Now click on the move button
  11. In the window that opens, choose the drive or hard drive you just added and click move
  12. You just wait for the process to finish and that’s it.
  13. At the end, a window will appear with the message “All content has been moved successfully”. and you will have to click on the Close button.

Another way to move the game (only works if you already have the disk added, as we saw in the previous tutorial).

  1. Open your Steam app.
  2. Go to the game you want to move and right click.
  3. Choose the Properties option.
  4. In the window that opens (in the menu on the left) click on Local Files
  5. On your right, choose the “Move Installation Folder” button.
  6. In the new window that opens, choose the drive and click the Move button.
  7. You just wait for the process to finish and that’s it.
  8. At the end, a window will appear with the message “All content has been moved successfully”. and you will have to click on the Close button.
