In the case of the iPhone, the first thing you need to do is link your Google account to the device. To do so, open the Settings app , recognizable by the gear icon, and go to Mail> Accounts> Add account : select the Google item from the list that appears and enter your Google account credentials.
Once this is done, go to this Google page : you will find a list with all the devices connected to the same Google account, including the iPhone, with the next day and time of the last synchronization of the device with Google. How to locate a lost cell phone via Gmail
Unfortunately, what you never wanted to happen happened: you lost your device, and you have no idea how to locate a lost mobile phone via Gmail .
To be able to locate a lost Android smartphone , all you have to do is use the Find my device service , which I told you about in the previous chapter . Once you have reached the main screen of the service and have located the smartphone on the map, I advise you to act in a preventive manner, so proceed with blocking the device . Of course, once you find it, you can unlock it again.
To lock the device, from the side menu that appears after locating the device, just click on the item Lock the device , type a message that you want to appear on the smartphone screen (optional), enter a phone number (optional but at very useful if the device is found by someone) and click the Lock device button .
The device will be locked immediately and will remain in that state until you unlock it yourself remotely or by entering login credentials directly on the device.
Has it been days since you lost your cell phone and still couldn’t find it? In this case it is very likely that you will hardly be able to recover it or maybe you have not really lost it, but it was stolen. For this reason, in addition to blocking the device, I advise you to perform a remote reset , in order to remove all the data inside the smartphone, avoiding that any malicious person can access it in some way.
To do this, go to the main screen of the Find my device service and select the smartphone you want to reset remotely from the bar at the top (click on its thumbnail ). From the menu that opens on the left click on the Reset device item and then on the Reset device button : confirm the operation by logging into your Google account .
If, on the other hand, you want to block an iPhone , you should know that you will not be able to use Google’s Find My Device service, as the latter is only compatible with Android devices equipped with Google services. However, this doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to remotely lock or reset an iPhone – simply use Apple ‘s Find My service.
In order to access this service you must go to this web page and log in to your Apple ID : by logging in from this page, you will not be prompted for two-factor authentication, which instead would be activated if you run the login first on the iCloud site .
Once in the main screen of the service, click on the item All devices at the top and from the drop-down menu select the product you want to block or maybe reset. Once selected, a box will appear on the left showing you some additional options. To block an iPhone, click on the Lost Mode item : type a phone number (optional but useful if someone finds the device), click Next , type a message (optional) and tap the Finish button .
If, on the other hand, you want to reset it remotely, since you now believe it has been stolen, from the box click on the Initialize iPhone item : click on the Initialize button from the pop-up that appears and then enter your Apple ID password to complete the operation.
Your iPhone will then be reset remotely and all the data inside it will be completely removed.
Once you have reset the device remotely, you are missing one last thing: you have to file a complaint with the competent authorities and then request the blocking of the SIM and the IMEI of the smartphone, so that you can request a new SIM with the same number and block the smartphone so that it cannot be used with any telephone company operating in Italy.
