How to install HyperOS on a Xiaomi mobile. All shapes available

How to install HyperOS on a Xiaomi mobile.Xiaomi surprised everyone when it announced that MIUI would no longer be present in the software of its smartphones . HyperOS is the culprit, an “operating system” born (as usual) from Android. The rollout is already underway, with quite a few Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones being updated .

How to install HyperOS on a Xiaomi mobile

Can’t resist trying their new products? Do you want to update your Xiaomi mobile right now? We tell you all the available methods , although we also warn that some of these may entail risks that you may not want to take.

The easiest and safest method: sign up for the Mi Pilot program

The easiest and safest method: sign up for the Mi Pilot program

For now, speaking of the HyperOS Global ROM , the one carried by all mobile phones sold outside the manufacturer’s native country, we only have access through Mi Pilot . What is this? A testing program that allows users who wish to receive updates before the rest.

At Xataka Android we have talked on occasion about this beta program , and joining is as simple as filling out this form with your information. Then, we must be patient to be accepted and on our mobile we will receive the OTA update. This is how we have updated a Xiaomi 13 and a POCO F5 that we have in the editorial office.

In addition, the updates that are being deployed to Mi Pilot users correspond to stable versions, so we will not find bugs or major problems in HyperOS. The requirements to participate are the following:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • It is mandatory to log in on our mobile with the same Mi account that requested participation.
  • Although the updates are stable, you could encounter some problems, so it is your responsibility.
  • If you participated in the MIUI 14Mi Pilot program , you do not need to apply again.

To check if HyperOS has arrived, we must go to Settings > About phone > MIUI version. On the next screen, our Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO mobile will search for available updates , and it will appear if it is available.

Download the update package and apply it from settings

We have a second method available, which we already warned, will probably not work for you at the moment . We are talking about the ability of the MIUI updater to install packages without having to arrive via OTA. In this link we detail it in more depth, and now we present it as a summary:

  • Open the Settings and follow the path until you reach the updater (the same one we explained in the previous method).
  • Now, repeatedly tap on the MIUI 14 logo, until we see a pop-up message that says the following: ‘ Additional feature updates are activated‘.
  • Right after, click on the three dots on the upper right side. Among the options displayed, the one that interests us is ‘Select update package’.
  • It will take us to the file manager, where we will choose the relevant package.

Now, we said that it still does not serve as a method to update to HyperOS because the majority of available packages are part of the Mi Pilot program . Therefore, when downloading it and during the attempt, we will receive a message that the update is not eligible. Which brings us to the last method, with which we can install these packages without impediments, although it carries risks.

I’m impatient and I don’t care about taking risks: this way you can upgrade to HyperOS now

Xiaomi, as we have said before, is immersed in the deployment process and wants its users to enjoy HyperOS as soon as possible. However, all these processes are gradual, and go through different stages. First, they internally check that it works properly on each device and then correct any problems. That is why they restrict the update to users who have not entered Mi Pilot, in order to ensure a stable and solid system.

But…What if we told you that you can install the update without it rejecting it? Of course, we will need some advanced knowledge about aspects such as the bootloader, recovery and ROMs As a summary, this is what you need:

  • A Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO mobile with the bootloaderopen . Here we explain how to do it.
  • A custom recoverylike TWRP . Necessary to dump the update without the system marking it as unsupported.
  • The update package in recoverymode . On this website you have an updated list of the builds that Xiaomi publishes, where you can download them.

If you have reached this point, you probably know how to proceed. Basically, we must download the package into the memory of our Xiaomi mobile , start it in recovery mode (‘Vol +’ button and power button), and use the ‘ Install from zip ‘ option. The ideal would be to reset the system completely, through ‘ Wipes ‘.

After the installation is complete, we can restart the mobile and when the system starts, we will have HyperOS . Keep in mind that this carries some risks and you may end up with a nice paperweight, so do it at your own risk.
