How to have a smart home

Thanks to new technologies such as Google or Amazon smart speakers, we will be able to transform our house into a smart home in a simple and economic way. In this article we will teach you how to have a smart home.

In chapters of The Simpsons or in science fiction movies of the 90s we could see how people lived in completely modern houses full of technology. Back then, we all believed that living like this would require hundreds of years of evolution , however, in the middle of 2019, we can already affirm that having a smart home is a simple and, in some cases, economic task.

Thanks to the Internet of Things (IoT) , which is now in vogue due to 5G connectivity , the appliances and small consumer technologies currently on the market have the ability to be controlled and configured through a application on our smartphone or computer. This interesting function generates that we can put them into operation remotely to achieve greater efficiency.

Other key factors when talking about smart homes or smart homes are smart speakers that include voice assistants such as Google Home or Amazon Echo . Through them we can activate the different electronic devices that are linked to our WiFi network simply using voice commands; in this way, it will only suffice to say, for example, “Ok, Google, turn on the TV” and quickly and automatically, our television will be ready to be used.

How to have a smart home

To have a smart home we must have some devices in particular, these are:

Lights: on many occasions we have gone to bed in our bed and when we are about to fall asleep we realize that the light in our room was on. By having a smart bulb, we will only have to stretch our arm to grab the smartphone of our nightstand and turn it off from the application of the manufacturer of the bulb or through a voice command in case of having a smart speaker. In addition, unlike a normal light bulb, we can change the tonality and intensity of the light and even program an on and off time .

Locks: Smart locks are essential when it comes to having a smart home. We can open or close our doors remotely, an ideal function for when we are sick and someone comes to visit us; it will not be necessary to carry the whole day with a key since we can open the lock with our fingerprint and we can even provide access to the people we want, this can be useful in case we are traveling and some family member has to enter to our house for an emergency.

Thermostats: if we are one of those people who suffer greatly from temperature changes, a smart thermostat will be our best friend. Thanks to these devices, we can configure a base temperature so that our home is neither too cold nor too warm. In order not to waste too much energy, this function can be activated remotely in case you are arriving from work or from another place.

Security systems: one of the most important points when putting together our smart home is security. There are camera systems, alarms and doorbells that, using artificial intelligence and a database, can detect if there are intruders in our house who forcibly entered or, on the contrary, known people who are there with our authorization.

Sprinklers: surely it has happened to us to leave our house for a few days and when we return to find all the dry garden plants; To solve this, smart sprinklers have been created that automatically water according to the weather.

The devices mentioned above are not the only ones that exist to transform our normal home into a smart home, many manufacturers and the vast majority of the world’s largest technology companies are constantly researching and developing new ways to bring technology into our homes .
