- How to get a refund on PlayStation Store: games and additional content
- How to get refunded on PlayStation Store: pre-order
Before getting to the heart of the matter and understanding, in practice, how to get reimbursed on PlayStation Store , I feel it is my duty to give you some clarification regarding this possibility.
To begin with, you need to know that the refund categories obtainable on the PS Store are mainly three: subscriptions (eg PlayStation Plus ), games and additional content (eg DLC, expansions and season passes) and pre-orders . Each of these categories, which I will tell you about in the following chapters of this guide, has very specific conditions to be respected in order to obtain a refund.
In general, the crediting of the funds takes place via the payment method used to conclude the transaction, with the exception of the following incompatible systems : Bancontact (MisterCash), Giropay, Ideal, Paysafecard, Postepay, Sofort, Yandex, payment via operator mobile and promotional codes.
If the purchase for which you are requesting a refund was made with one of the aforementioned types of payment, the consideration will be credited to the virtual wallet linked to your PlayStation account.
Also in this regard, it should be noted that it is not allowed to cancel top-ups for the PlayStation wallet : therefore, before adding funds, make sure you can use them, otherwise they will remain bound there and cannot be unlocked in any way (except by making purchases on the PS Store, in fact).
Furthermore, before requesting a refund, you must have the identification code of the transaction available , to be specified during the request phase: to obtain it, connected to the Sony account management portal , log in to your profile and select the History item transactions , located in the left sidebar.
Once you have reached the dedicated page, locate the transaction of your interest (the one for which to request a refund), click on it and note the relevant transaction ID , which should appear in the box dedicated to additional information. If necessary, use the Start and End boxes to refine the list of transactions based on the date.
Finally, it is important to specify that the instructions that I am about to illustrate in the following sections of this guide, together with any constraints and requests, are valid only for the European version of the PS Store . Therefore, if you have purchased content from other versions of the store (e.g. Japanese or US), different conditions and restrictions may apply.
How to get reimbursed on PlayStation Store: subscriptions
Having made the necessary clarifications on the subject, let’s move on to practice and try to understand, together, how to get reimbursed on PlayStation Store . Let’s start with the category of subscriptions (such as PS Plus or PS Now ): in this case, you can only get a refund within 14 days from the first signing of the same, trial days included .
If this term has expired, you will not be granted a refund, and the same thing happens also in the case of the automatic renewal of the subscription : in fact, when you subscribe to a plan, you accept that it will be renewed without any intervention by the user, unless you unsubscribe before its “natural” expiration.
How do you say? 14 days (including tests) have not passed since the start of the subscription you intend to cancel? In this case, do the following: Using your preferred browser, go to the PS Store support page and use the Select a topic drop-down menu to choose the PlayStation Store refunds and cancellations option .
Next, enter your Full Name (including last name), your PSN Online ID , a contact email address and the email address associated with the PSN .
Next, choose the subscription category for which you want to request a refund (e.g. PlayStation Plus , PlayStation Now or TV and video content , for subscriptions initiated through the PS Store but not linked to video games) and specify, where required, the name of the content involved in the request, the reason for the same, the subscription date and the identification code of the transaction (I explained how to retrieve it in the initial chapter of this guide).
When you are done, if requested, pass the CAPTCHA check and click on the Submit button to advance the request: within a few days, your request should be examined and, if compatible with the conditions I mentioned above, you should receive the refund requested. Keep in mind that the amount will be equal to the subscription fee to which the days used are subtracted .
If you prefer, you can also send your request by post, fax or e-mail, following the instructions available on this page .
As I mentioned at the beginning of this section, you cannot get a refund for an automatically renewed subscription: to avoid unwanted charges, you must take care to cancel the automatic subscription before it expires.
You can do this in several ways: for example, you can visit the PSN account management page , go to the Subscription section (if not already selected) and, after opening the one you are interested in, select the Disable automatic renewal option and respond affirmatively to the next warning. How to get a refund on PlayStation Store: games and additional content
Did you buy a game or DLC from PlayStation Store and regret it shortly after? In this case, you can try to get a refund, but only by respecting some requirements: for Sony to return the amount spent, in fact, it is essential not to have started downloading the game / content or not to have started streaming . In an exceptional way, refunds have been made for titles that have not met certain quality standards and, therefore, have aroused a lot of criticism from buyers: an example is Cyberpunk 2077 released in December 2020 .
Please note that the refund request must be submitted no later than 14 days from the time of purchase (the date of sending the refund request form will prevail).
If you meet these requirements, there is a good chance that Sony will allow you to get your money back. Like? It’s that easy. All you have to do is go to the PS Store support page , choose the PlayStation Store refunds and cancellations option from the Select a topic drop-down menu and act in the same way as I explained above , selecting, however, the Game Content option from the Content Type pane and I changed my mind / purchased by mistake from the Reason drop-down menu .
The only case in which it is possible to obtain a refund for a game even after starting the download / streaming is when the video game is faulty : in most cases, this happens when the title is the victim of errors or known problems, which show up for most players who use them.
In this case, the methods of completing the refund request form change slightly: choose the Problems related to games option from the Select topic drop-down menu , fill in the proposed form with your personal information and, having done this, specify the type of problem you encountered, the title and type of game / add-on content, and report the error code you encounter, if necessary.
Finally, attach an image and / or an accurate description of the problem and, when you are done, pass the CAPTCHA check and press the Submit button to proceed with the request, which should be answered within a few days.
How to get refunded on PlayStation Store: pre-order
How do you say? Have you pre-ordered a PlayStation game from Sony’s digital store but, after reading a few reviews, have you ascertained that this is not for you? Don’t worry – even then there’s a good chance you’ll be able to get a refund.
You should know that if you have made a pre-order more than 14 days before the game’s release , you can request a refund at any time, as long as the publication of the title in question has not already taken place. If, on the other hand, the reservation was made in the 14 days prior to the publication of the title , you can request a refund of the amount spent within 14 days from the payment of the pre-order. In this case, of course, you must not have downloaded or started the streaming title (if this has been published in the meantime), otherwise you will not get anything.
Once the validity of the conditions I have explained to you has been verified, you can proceed with the refund request, which must be made from the PlayStation Store support page in the same way as illustrated in the chapter dedicated to subscriptions ; make sure, however, to select the Pre-order item from the choices listed in the Type box .
