How to Get Quetzalcoatl’s Claw in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has many side quests that allow you to take a break from the main story, earn valuable rewards, and learn more about the game’s unique world. One of these valuable side quests is a quest called Where the Wind Blows. As part of this mission, you will have the opportunity to fight a secret boss in one of the game’s regions and get useful resources. To ensure that you don’t have any problems completing this quest, we suggest that you read our guide.

During the Where the Wind Blows quest, you will be required to create a special windmill mechanism. At first, getting all the necessary materials for crafting will not be difficult. All the necessary items will be marked on the map, but the main difficulties will arise when you need to start looking for the Quetzalcoatl Talon. In this guide, we will tell you how to challenge the boss to a battle, get the necessary item and create the mechanism to successfully complete the quest.

Since Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth does not have an official localization in Russian, the guide uses the original names in English. For general convenience and understanding, some of them have been translated into Russian.

How to Start Where the Wind Blows – Life Sources

This side quest can be obtained from Broden. Go to the Grasslands location and talk to Mildred in the Windmill settlement. From her you will learn that you need to create a windmill mechanism, but to do this you will need to explore life sources and find a transmuter chip.

To complete the first part of this quest, mount a chocobo and head to the designated areas. You need to analyze the Springs of Life in the Meadows. The location of each spring is marked in the screenshots below. There are six available, but only four will be enough to progress through the quest.

Once you have analyzed enough locations, you will be asked to visit the Bygone Settlement. Here, you must find the Transmuter Chip using your chocobo’s keen sense of smell. To do this, you need to find three artifacts using your chocobo’s senses. Once you see a question mark above the chocobo’s head, follow the animal’s senses to find the desired item. Once you have dug up all the artifacts, you will be asked to return to Mildred. After that, you need to find the Quetzalcoatl Talon.

Where to find Quetzalcoatl’s claw and how to make a windmill mechanism

To get the Claw of Quetzalcoatl, you need to defeat Quetzalcoatl, the secret boss of the region, who will not appear without a reason. He lives in his lair, which is marked in the screenshot above. You can see him there only after exploring all six sources of life mentioned earlier. If you came to the indicated place and the boss was not there, it means that you did not explore all the necessary places.

Quetzalcoatl is strong as it deals strong and fast attacks and has a decent amount of health. The boss is weak against ice, so make sure a party member has an Ice Materia as this will help stagger your opponent faster. Quetzalcoatl switches between ground and air combat, so it might be worth switching between Cloud and a ranged attacker like Aerith.

Once the boss is defeated, you will receive a bloody Quetzalcoatl Talon, which, along with the rest of the required materials, is needed for the mechanism. To complete the quest “Where the Wind Blows” you will need the following items:

  • 1 Quetzalcoatl’s Claw
  • 2x Iron Ore
  • 1x Lea Titanium
  • 5x Beast Bone

After you craft the Windmill Mechanism and give it to Mildred, return to Broden and you will receive the Windwhistle Scarf and your relationship with Red XIII will improve.
