How to Get Icon Cards in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team

How to Get Icon Cards in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team.Icons have been around in FIFA Ultimate Team mode for years, and they’re back once again in FIFA 23. Representing the greatest players to ever grace the game, having just one icon on your Ultimate Team can go a long way. for how your team performs on the pitch. Unsurprisingly, these are also some of the rare cards in the game. Fear not though, as Twinfinite is here to guide you through all the Icon Players in FIFA 23 , how to get Icons , and explain the new Campaign Icons introduced this year.

How to Get Icon Cards in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team

There are four ways to get icons in FIFA 23:

  • opening packages
  • Complete Icon Swap SBC
  • Complete Icon Player specific SBCs
  • Buy one in the transfer market

opening packages

The chances of you packing an Icon are incredibly low. That is, well below 0.1%, you will get an icon in almost every type of pack in the game.

If you manage to be unbelievably lucky and pack one. Congratulations, you are one of the few players likely to get one this way. However, we certainly wouldn’t recommend spending a bunch of Coins and FIFA Points on packs hoping to get an icon.

Icon Swap SBC

Icon Swap SBCs have been around for a few years now, and if EA continues their trend of doing Icon Swap SBCs in FIFA 23, this is possibly the easiest way to get your hands on one without spending an insane amount of coins or playing the odds game with packs. (and spend a lot of coins and points in the process).

These SBCs (Squad Building Challenges) require players to complete specific objectives in order to earn Icon Swap cards or tokens, which can then be entered into an SBC in exchange for an Icon.

Objectives are always pretty tricky and will probably require you to switch players on your team to complete them, but they’re fun to work on if you’re getting tired of using the same old gear and fancy a little challenge.

Icon Player SBC

Aside from Icon Swaps, there are only Icon Player SBCs. These often have very high requirements to complete, such as having a high overall rating, high chemistry, featuring special or ‘promo’ cards, and a number of rare players.

However, the advantage of completing them is that you know exactly which player you will get when you start the SBC, rather than getting a random one from Icon Swaps or getting one in a pack. However, the better the Icon card, the more expensive it will be to complete its SBC, so keep that in mind.

Like the Icon Swap SBCs, these will not be active from the start. EA tends to introduce these a few months after the game’s annual shelf life, so you’ll have to bide your time.

Buy in the transfer market

Last but not least, you have the transfer market. Some players may pack an icon and would rather have the large amount of coins they sell for than have them on their team.

Be careful though, as icons can fetch a massive premium on the market. For example, at the time of writing, a Zidane costs 2,162,000 coins!

These prices will drop as time goes on, and players will pack more and more icons, but they are still much more expensive than most other cards in the game.

Campaign icons are new in FIFA 23

In previous FIFAs, players have had the opportunity to get a player from Icon Moments. Moments players would grant enhanced stats and attributes compared to the standard Icon cards, but EA Sports felt they were not keeping up with new promotional releases, so the icons, despite representing the best players to be they have seen in football, they did not feel that way in-game.

As such, campaign icons are replacing them. These will be released more frequently as part of promotional campaigns throughout the year and will essentially ensure that Icon players feel as dominant on the pitch in-game as they do in real life.

Details on how you’ll get them don’t appear to have been shared yet, but as soon as we have more information we’ll let you know.

That’s everything you need to know about icons in FIFA 23, including how to get them, all icon player cards, and the new campaign icons. For more on the game, be sure to check out our guides on FIFA 23 microtransaction prices, preload and unlock times, and how the chemistry system works after its revamp this year.
