How to get characters in Wuthering Waves

One of the main new releases in May was the role-playing game Wuthering Waves – a project in the style of Genshin Impact, but with more “adult” graphics and dynamic battles. 

As in other projects of the genre, the diversity of characters comes first. Today we will tell you everything you need to know about the heroes in the new gacha game.

How to get characters in Wuthering Waves

The game from Kuro Games is a typical gacha, where all monetization and game rewards are built around character banners. New heroes for the team can only be obtained for the internal currency astrit, which is given for quests and events. 

As in Genshin, once every ten spins you are guaranteed to receive a random 4-star hero or weapon, and once every 80 spins – a “legendary”. In addition, additional rewards are available at the start of the game.

How to Get a Free Character of Your Choice in Wuthering Waves

In “Wuva” there is also an analogue of the newbie banner from other gacha games – or rather, even three such banners with very simple rules. 

• a standard newbie banner, which will definitely drop a random five-star character after 40 attempts;
• then another banner opens – you can choose any legendary hero in it, and it will appear after a maximum of 80 spins;
• Due to errors and bugs, players receive another banner in their mail – you only need to open it once, and another five-star hero of your choice will drop out of it.

Thanks to generous rewards, all players can get three top characters to choose from until the end of version 1.0 (July 4, 2024). After the release of 1.1, only the first two banners will remain – which, however, is still quite a lot.

Five Star Characters

As in any game, in Wuthering Waves these are the strongest and most developed characters, who are given a lot of attention in the plot. Legendaries also stand out for their design and their power in battle.

Rover

The main character, who at the start of the game already received two versions with different elements. Focused on high damage, although in any case significantly inferior to the characters from the banners. At the beginning, you can choose a male or female model.

Verina

A simple but very effective support – probably the best in the game right now. Verina is great at healing allies and can remove negative effects from them.

Yinling

Another incredibly strong character who creates traps for opponents with his puppet and deals a lot of electrical damage. 

Calcharo

The main source of damage in the team – all the character’s abilities are aimed at this. Slightly inferior to Jiang in power, but in any case good in many combat situations.

Lin’yang

An ice damager whose main power is freezing enemies. Stronger than four-star heroes, but inferior in power to other legendaries.

iangxin

A character who is able to pull opponents to a desired point or throw them aside thanks to the properties of the element. 

ian (Jiyan)

The strongest damage dealer in the game, with many types of attacks, which is to be expected from a character in a temporary banner. Will only be available until June 12, after which you will not be able to get Jian anytime soon: you will have to wait for a rerun.

Encore

A cheerful girl who fights with very hot beams aimed at enemies. A very strong damage dealer in some situations. 

Four star characters

Unlike Genshin Impact and other gacha games, Epic Heroes in Wuthering Waves are sometimes as good as Legendary Heroes, especially if they reach S6.

Players can use them much more often, so we recommend paying attention: in this section, there will also be characters that will be useful in battles.

Aalto

The character is able to competently control the battle due to the elements, which allows him to inflict damage in an area and control opponents.

Baizhi

A support who can use the ice element to freeze enemies and create strong shields for his allies. 

Danjin

A damage dealer with simple abilities who realizes himself well at the start of the game. Strength relative to other heroes can be assessed as average.

Mortefi

A ranged character who provides bonuses to allies and can deal damage through burning – useful for long-range battles.

Sanhua

The main feature of this sub-DD is the ice copies that help Sanhua in battle. Thanks to this, the girl seems to be one of the best epic characters.

Taoqi

An extremely situational support that can weaken opponents. Judging by the players’ reactions, she is not very effective compared to other characters.

Chixia

Not the strongest damage dealer, but can show itself well in the early stages of the game. Due to dodging and fast movement, it is suitable for beginners.

Yuanwu

A situational character that compensates for the lack of damage with the speed of movement on the battlefield and rapid attacks.

Yanyang

A decent support, effective in close combat. Among the abilities, it is worth highlighting the ability to pull enemies into the center for future attacks by other squad members.

Wuthering Waves Character Tier List

Analysts from the Prydwen portal conducted calculations after the release and compiled a rating of characters. At the same time, the authors of the study note that the tier list is relevant only for the current state of Wuthering Waves – with the release of updates, it may change.

DPS characters (damage)

There are currently six damage-focused heroes in the game. They can be the backbone of your team and do most of the damage:

Hybrid characters

The second group included seven heroes with unique combat abilities that strengthen allies or weaken enemies.

Supports

The last group includes only four characters that can support allies in battle. Despite their weak damage, it is advisable to use one of them in a squad in battles to avoid trouble.
