Shader compilation bug fix in COD Vanguard

What is this error about?

This is a bug where players get a message at the top of their screens that says ” Compile shaders to optimize game performance “. And different people are witnessing different variants of this error. For some the Compilation of shaders to optimize performance during gameplay is stuck at 0% and for some the message appears repeatedly even after the installation has completed once.

This is really frustrating as it makes the gaming experience difficult. And if someone tries to play the game when the installation of the shaders is in progress, the performance in the game will drop horribly for them. The game already has a lot of bugs to start with. The last thing players need is for more issues like this to appear every hour.

How to fix this error

People who have already played Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War should know that there was a similar bug in that game. They fixed it many times but it kept coming back. It was probably one of the longest runtime errors in BOCW. The same goes for COD Vanguard.

Now, there may be two reasons why the installation progress has stalled at 0% for you. Either you have a lot of bugs or you don’t have a powerful enough PC where the installation would be much faster. We tested this on two systems, the first being my personal PC, which has a Ryzen 5 5600x, paired with RTX 3070 and a Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 SSD, and the other one I used had an i3 8100 and GTX 1650 (No SSD ). And obviously the installation on Ryzen PC was flawless and much faster. Build got stuck on i3-8100 PC and all we did was restart the game. After the reboot, the installation took some time, but it was completed.

But if the message appears repeatedly even after you have completed the installation once, this is what you should do:

  • The game starts
  • Go to Settings
  • Click on the Charts tab
  • Scroll to the bottom of the screen.
  • Look for the option Restart shader build
  • click on it
  • And wait for the installation to complete

This setting clears your shader cache and rebuilds all shaders from scratch. You need to make sure the build is complete as it will avoid performance issues when playing on a map for the first time.

If you have updated your GPU drivers, you will have to do it again.

If the problem you are facing is serious, your best option would be to contact support . I suggest you take a look at the official Vanguard Reddit . You will find many players discussing the exact same topics.
