Instagram is the new Facebook these days. Social media addiction is real, and since the app doesn’t allow you to post a recent photo of a trip or a delicious dinner, you might be left wondering about the problem. We will share methods to fix Instagram not allowing you to post from iPhone and Android.

Table of Contents

1. Log out and log back in

On your phone, log out of your current account and log in again with the same Instagram account credentials. That’s how.

Step 1: Open Instagram on your iPhone or Android.

Step 2: Tap the account icon in the lower right corner.

Step 3: Select the hamburger menu at the top and go to Settings.

Step 4: Scroll down and log out of the account.

Log in with your Instagram account login ID / password. If you have enabled two-factor authentication for Instagram, it may also ask you to verify the code.

2. Check Mobile Data or Wi-Fi

Are you using Instagram on an incomplete internet connection? You need to disable and enable mobile data or Wi-Fi and try again after a while. You can also enable and disable Airplane mode on your iPhone or Android.

In short, make sure you have a working internet connection while posting on Instagram.

3. Check the Instagram servers

Instagram is no stranger to occasional outrage. The Facebook-owned company has faced multiple outrages in recent times.

You can go to Downloader Detector and search for Instagram. If you see heavy spikes on the server (which it will be), it’s an issue on the Instagram side.

You don’t have to do anything now. Let Instagram fix the problem for you and get the latest company updates on other social media platforms.

4. Reduce the file size

If you are working with huge RAW image files to upload to Instagram, the service may not allow you to post them.

Instagram compresses the upload size of the media, but can throw an error when dealing with large image files. You need to reduce the size of the photos file on the iPhone or on the desktop.

We won’t go into details on how to do that, and you can read our dedicated post on how to reduce photo file size on iPhone and Mac.

5. Enable background application update (iPhone)

When uploading large videos like an Instagram post, you need to keep the app open on the iPhone for a successful post. If you go back to the home screen, Instagram may not allow you to post errors. For a flawless loading process, it’s best to enable background app refresh from the Settings menu.

Step 1: Open Settings app on iPhone.

Step 2: Scroll down to Instagram.

Step 3: Enable background app update from the next menu.

6. Clear the Instagram cache (Android)

Instagram collects cache in the background to remember your frequently visited accounts and other data. The overhead of such a cache can cause Instagram not to allow you to post, especially when you have little storage on an Android phone.

Step 1: Find Instagram from the home screen or the app drawer.

Step 2: Long press the icon and open the application information menu.

Step 3: Go to Storage and Cache and select Clear Cache from the next menu.

7. Enable unrestricted data usage for Instagram (Android)

This option is most useful when you use Instagram with data saving mode turned on. Data saving mode on Android can limit data usage on Instagram. You must give Instagram unrestricted data usage on Android. That’s how.

Step 1: Long press the Instagram application icon and open the application information menu.

Step 2: Open the Mobile data and Wi-Fi menu and enable the Unrestricted data usage option.

8. Update the Instagram application

Instagram not allowing you to post may be due to an outdated build on your iPhone or Android. You need to open the App Store or Google Play Store and update Instagram to the latest version available.

9. Post from Instagram Web

Instagram also has a functional web version. You can visit Instagram on the web, log in with account details, and start posting images and videos to your Instagram account.

Temporary Instagram outage

One of the reasons could be a temporary interruption of Instagram services. But if that’s not the case, there is no other alternative to the social platform on the web. Follow the steps above and fix the problem immediately.
