How to fix Minecraft errors in Windows 10

Update Minecraft

Regardless of the problem you are currently facing, the first thing to keep in mind when dealing with that particular problem is to keep your game up to date. Because installing the latest possible version of Minecraft can solve many problems.

In case you don’t know how to update Minecraft, follow the instructions below:

  1. First, install the Java package on your device . You should apply this every time you get the error message “This application requires a Java 1.5.0 runtime environment” on Windows 8 – download Java from here.
  2. Open Minecraft and log in with your personal account.
  3. Then apply the latest updates, if any.
  4. Now if you get the “Bad video card drivers” alert, just go to the home screen and follow the rest of the steps below.
  5. Press the dedicated keyboard keys » Wind + X » and run Device Manager .
  6. From there go to » Graphics Drivers » and uninstall your Nvidia drivers.
  7. Then go to the official website of your manufacturer (for example, Acer, HP, Dell, etc.), not the Nvidia website.
  8. Download from there the drivers indicated by your manufacturer and in the end install these drivers even in compatibility mode for Windows 7. We also recommend this third-party tool (100% safe and tested by us) to automatically download all the outdated drivers on your PERSONAL COMPUTER .
  9. In the end, run Minecraft one more time when you’re done.

Good work; Now you know how to make Minecraft work on Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 when using an Nvidia graphics card driver.

Unable to load a mod in Minecraft

If you like to experiment with Minecraft mods, but can’t install your favorite mod, just change the focus.

You’ve probably been installing mods the old-fashioned way (putting mod files into Minecraft yourself), which is prone to bugs and issues. Instead, you should use a handy little program called Forge.

Forge basically doesn’t do all the work for you. You just need to put the mod you want to install in Forge, and it will automatically implement it in the game. Saving you a lot of time and effort. You can download Forge for free from this link .

In case you need further explanation, just watch the tutorial on how to use Forge to install Minecraft mods below:

I can’t play the game on LAN

If you can’t play Minecraft with your friends over LAN, try enabling Minecraft in Windows Firewall:

  1. Go to Search, type firewall and open Windows Defender Firewall
  2. Click Allow a program or feature through the Firewall of Windows Defender  from the left panel
  3. Select Minecraft / Minecraft for Windows 10 and make sure both Private and Public are checked
  4. Restart your computer

If you still can’t play via LAN, make sure everything is fine with your internet connection. In case you discover that something is wrong, check out this article to resolve Internet connection problems in Windows 10.

Minecraft is lagging

If you find that your performance in the game is not excellent and that the game could perform better, consider the following:

Solution 1: meet the system requirements

If your computer doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements, you’re lucky enough to even launch the game. So if you don’t have a powerful enough computer to play Minecraft, consider upgrading your hardware.

Minecraft system requirements:

  • CPU : Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 (K8) 2.6 GHz.
  • RAM : 2GB.
  • GPU (Integrated) : Intel HD Graphics or AMD Graphics (formerly ATI) Radeon HD with OpenGL 2.1.
  • GPU (discrete) : Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT or AMD Radeon HD 2400 with OpenGL 3.1.
  • HDD : at least 200MB for Game Core and other files.
  • Java 6 Release 45.

Solution 2: allocate more RAM to Minecraft

The Minecraft launcher now allows you to allocate more RAM to the game, if you are not satisfied with the performance. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open Minecraft Launcher
  2. Go to Startup Options , select your profile and turn on Advanced Settings
  3. Activate “JVM Arguments” and add the following command:  -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M
  4. Save these settings and the game will always start with 2GB of RAM. If you want to allocate more RAM, just replace 2048M with the amount of RAM you want to allocate.

Solution 3 – Update Java

Since Minecraft runs on Java, you will need its latest version to run the game smoothly. You can download the latest version of Java from here .

Minecraft crashes

If the game crashes, here are some possible solutions you can try:

  • Update Minecraft
  • Update your graphics card drivers
  • Update Java
  • Run the SFC scan
  • Run the DISM command

See our article on fixing Minecraft crashes for more detailed information.

Saves disappear from the World List

If your saved worlds disappear from the World List, do the following:

  1. Close Minecraft.
  2. Go to the Minecraft save folder. You can access this folder by entering the following command in Find:  % appdata% .minecraftsaves
  3. Open the save file that Minecraft doesn’t recognize.
  4. Find the file called level.dat and rename it to corrupt.dat
  5. Now rename the level.dat_old file to level.dat .

Missing files error: org.lwjgl.LWJGLException

This error code appears when the Minecraft launcher cannot start the game. The solution for this problem is to disable your antivirus program or Windows Firewall.

Here’s how to disable Windows Firewall:

  1. Type Firewall in the Windows search bar and open Windows Defender Firewall.
  2. Click  Turn Windows Firewall on or off in the left pane.
  3. Disable the firewall for private  and  public  networks and confirm the changes.
  4. Try running the Windows Store apps again and look for the error.

It is also recommended to reinstall Minecraft when disabling Firewall. Once this issue is resolved, we recommend that you re-enable your security solutions.

Server download does not open

If you can’t run server downloads in Minecraft, there are a few things you can try:

  • Update Java
  • Edit the EULA.text
  • Download from official servers
  • Run a batch file from the Minecraft server
  • Run version of Minecraft Server.exe as administrator

In case you’re not sure how to do some of these, we have a comprehensive guide on how to fix this. So, you will find detailed explanations there.

Bad login error

Bad login error occurs when you cannot connect to Minecraft multiplayer. In that case, try some of the following solutions:

  • Verify that your network connection is enabled
  • Check if any program is blocking outgoing connections.
  • Disable Windows Defender Firewall
  • Restart your modem / router.

I can’t chat in Minecraft

If you cannot chat within the game, you must change the Chat settings to Show . If you’re not sure how, check out our full guide on how to change chat settings in Minecraft.

Service not available: error 503

If you receive this error, there is a possibility that the Mojang servers are down. Check the server status here . If the servers are down, the only thing you can really do is wait for it to come back online.

If not, try disabling your antivirus or Windows Firewall. Also, make sure your computer can receive the signal from the following directions:

  • minecraft.net
  • account.mojang.com
  • authserver.mojang.com
  • sessionserver.mojang.com
  • skins.minecraft.net
  • textures.minecraft.net

That’s it, we certainly hope this article has helped you solve that Minecraft error that has been bothering you lately. If you have comments, questions, or suggestions, please let us know in the comments below.
