How to fix Back 4 Blood crashes and won’t start

Back 4 Blood crashes and won’t start – This guide will show you how to fix hang and run issues on Back 4 Blood PC. Some of these fixes have been recommended by actual players in the community and confirmed to work.

Back 4 Blood – Crash on startup – Game won’t start – How to fix it

(Note: the fixes mentioned in this article are for Back 4 Blood Beta and may change when the full version of the game is released.)

One of the biggest releases of 2021, Back 4 Blood is finally here. Now you can finally try it. However, not the full version. For now, the Beta version of the game is available on Steam and the Epic Games Store. But only if you have reserved the game or have a beta access code. Back 4 Blood is easily one of the most anticipated zombie shooters of this year. And you can easily tell, as the game is already approaching 80,000 players playing on Steam. EGS numbers are still unknown. I’m pretty sure the number of simultaneous players is well over 100,000.Early Access will be available from August 5 at noon PST until August 9 at noon PST. And the open beta will run from August 12 at noon PST until August 16 at noon PST.

The problem is, people have already started experiencing a lot of performance issues and bugs, straight from the beta version. But if you ask me, I won’t call this a cause for concern. This is what betas are for, right? I am very happy that Turtle Rock Studios decided to release a beta version as this would help developers get real feedback. And they would have plenty of time to fix the issues before the full version of the game is released.

It is time to talk about the problems now. Back 4 Blood is crashing for many PC users, and some cannot even launch or launch the game. Honestly, problems like this no longer surprise me. In recent years, problems like these have become extremely common in AAA securities. Just a few weeks ago, the New World Beta was available and the game had the exact same issues. And let’s not forget, Back 4 Blood is an always online game, and we all know what always online games are like nowadays.

That’s why I decided to put all the community recommended fixes and fixes that I think would help in one place, so players don’t have to search multiple sources.

How to fix crashes and launch issues

Set your post-processing quality to low

This solution has been recommended by a Steam user. / Net RPG . Here is what you need to do (This is for people who can at least start the game) :

  • Cast 4 Blood
  • Go ahead, log in
  • Once in the game, go to you Optionsmenu
  • Click on the Graphicstab
  • Set your Post-Processing Qualityto low

This solution has worked for many users so far. This also fixes the ‘ Fatal error line 258 ‘ issue. See some responses from players who have actually tried it:

Fixed the error “xinput1_4.dll is missing”

Many Windows 7 users are getting an error where Back 4 Blood crashes and displays an error message saying “xinput1_4.dll is missing”. Many users have started to wonder if Back 4 Blood works on Windows 7 or not. Take a look at this forum user’s post. / Elthiam :

Without Windows 7?

Well, I should have seen this from afar, but when I try to start the game it says “xinput1_4.dll is missing” and if I am correct it is the usual error when you try to play games on Windows 7. (I also had this problem with Chivalry 2 Beta)
Even though some “test your setup” website told me I could play it, I can’t seem to.

Now the question is can you play Back 4 Blood on Windows 7? If you can. Many Windows 7 and 8.1 users are playing the game right now. Try this very simple solution recommended by a Steam user:

find xinput1_3.dll in system32. copy paste and rename it to xinput1_4.dll.

Personally I have not tried this solution because I am on Windows 10 and I already have xinput1_4.dll inside my System32 folder. If you are a Windows 7 user, this is what to do:

  • Open your C drive or the drive where you installed Windows
  • Open the Windowsfolder
  • Find the System32folder and open it
  • Type ‘ xinput1_3.dll‘ in the search bar and hit search
  • Copy the file and paste it to a different location
  • Rename it to “xinput1_4.dll” and paste it back into the System32 folder

That should do the trick. This has worked surprisingly for many users. Look at some answers:

Try changing your API

Back 4 Blood gives you two options. You can play DirectX 12 or DirectX 11. You need to try it yourself. If the game crashes it’s for you on DirectX 11, try DX11, and vice versa. If you haven’t noticed where the settings are:

  • Cast 4 Blood
  • Go ahead, log in
  • Once in the game, go to you Optionsmenu
  • Click on the Graphicstab
  • You should find the “Graphics API” option there.

In fact, at first I was getting an error where the game crashed and an error message would appear saying ” The game UE4-Gobi has crashed and will close .” I have personally tried this solution and can confirm that it works.

Check your graphics card software and make sure it is up to date.

(Note: Skip this step if you already have the latest drivers)

Microsoft Visual C ++ Redistributable

If you are getting errors like “vcruntime140_1.dll is missing” or “MSVCP140.dll was not found”. Go ahead and install the latest version of Visual C ++ Redistributable, as there is a possibility that it was not installed correctly.

Additional fixes (may or may not work)

Here are some additional things you can do just to be safe:

  • Disable your antivirus software. False-positive AV software can often cause launch problems in games.
  • Disable Steam overlay or other overlays (GFE, AMD Adenalin, Discord, Steam, etc.)
  • Run the exeas administrator directly from the installation folder instead of starting the game through Steam:
    Just open your Steam library
    Select Back 4 Blood
Click on the Settings tab, located on the right side of your
Manage screen > Browse local files
You should land in the Back 4 Blood installation folder
  • Check the files on Steam on Epic. It depends on what you are using
  • Reinstall in a different location (the last thing you should try)
