Learn how to farm experience fast in Pokémon Scarlet and Purple with these expert tips and tricks. Level up your team and become a Pokémon master in no time!
If you need to quickly level up one of your team members in Pokémon Scarlet / Pokémon Purple —to make them perform better in battle, to evolve them, to help them learn a new move, or anything else—you’ll be happy to know that there are plenty of things you can do to get them up to speed—some of which are more obvious than others, though.
Among the less obvious ones is the method shared by @JeroLeaky on Twitter , which became the most popular during the leak round. The idea is to force the appearance of Chansey in the wild, which in the Pokémon universe are something like walking XP bags, by using the “Normal encounter lv. 2” buff and leading each encounter with the monster you want to level up equipped with the Lucky Egg. Easy, right?
Some observations:
- Recipe #137, the “Super Tofu Sandwich”, gives Normal Level 2 encounter
- You get the Lucky Egg after completing the Mestura Town Gym
- In case you didn’t notice, Chansey appears on the north coast of the map.
- They have nothing to attack ghost-type Pokémon
Distribute Exp. in Scarlet and Purple
Your good Paldean student backpack contains rather few key items, and unfortunately none of them are the experience distributors: as with SwSh/BDSP, you are condemned to having a team in constant and equal progression. It is not a bad idea to train the Pokémon “designed” with PvP in mind separately so as not to allocate effort points that you do not really want to give them.
Extreme training no longer requires lvl 100
If you were reading this guide wondering how to get those IVs to 31, you’ll be happy to know two things: first, it’s pretty easy now with Silver Caps, which can be bought at any Chansey Apothecary (what a convenient name, right?) like the one east of Plateau City; and second, if you need to get everything up at once, then you just need to get your target Pokémon to level 50. If it’s ready for the VGC, then it’s ready for training, too.
Pokemon brings back XP candies
Aside from the systematic annihilation of innocent wild Chansey, you’ll be pleased to know that Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple are back to the XP candy that debuted in the eighth-generation games. In case you weren’t familiar with these items, they’re consumables that provide predetermined doses of XP points to those who consume them. You have a few classes, each more generous (but also rare to find) than the last. And of course, the classic “rare candy” that levels up your Pokémon no matter what.

Finally, you should also know that you have a new mechanic called ” let ‘s go ” whereby, when you press the R button, you send the leader of your team to fight nearby monsters. This function is more useful for training effort (PE/EVs) than experience because you get a reduced score, but it’s not a bad way to do a 2×1 if you organize it well. Considering that you can accumulate the Lucky Egg with this, in the end it all translates into saving time to do the same thing.
