How To Enable Flash for websites in Chrome

Websites that still support flash seem not to work on Chrome, the reason being that most browsers have started disabling Flash by default and will end support for Flash in the coming months. Adobe itself announced that it will completely end support for its Flash plugin by 2020. And the reason behind this is obvious as many browsers have started boycotting the Flash plugin due to security and other issues, so the volume of a number of users has decreased dramatically.

However, if you are a Chrome user, you will notice that Google does not prioritize Flash-based content and websites due to Chrome’s built-in security feature. By default, Chrome asks you not to use Flash-based websites. However, if circumstances require you to use Flash for a specific website, what would you do? The good news is that you can enable Flash for certain websites using the Chrome browser. Therefore, in this guide we will talk about how to enable Flash for certain websites and the different solutions to carry out this task.

Enable Flash for specific websites in Chrome

Make sure to create a restore point in case something goes wrong.

In the latest updates, Google Chrome has set only “Ask first” as the recommended option to run any Flash-based content. Let’s find out what we can do to enable flash for certain websites in chrome.

Now, starting with Chrome 76, the Flash is locked by default. Although, you can still enable it but in that case Chrome will show a notification about the end of Flash support.

Method 1: Enable Flash in Chrome using settings

The first solution we can adopt is to make changes to the browser settings.

1.Open Google Chrome and then navigate to the following URL in the address bar:

chrome: // settings / content / flash

  1. Make sure to activate the “Ask first (recommended)” toggle to activate Adobe Flash Player in Chrome.

3.In case you need to disable Adobe Flash Player in Chrome, just turn off the toggle above.

  1. That’s it, every time you browse any website that works in flash, it will ask you to open that website in the Chrome browser.

Method 2: Use site settings to turn on the flash

1.Open the particular website on Chrome that required access to Flash.

2.Now, from the left side of the address bar, click on the little icon (security icon).

3.Here you have to click on Site Settings.

4.Scroll down to the Flash section and from the dropdown select Allow.

That is, you have allowed this website to work with Flash content in Chrome. This method will surely work for you to be able to access any Flash-based content in your browser. Check out this guide if you need to enable Flash in any other web browser besides Chrome.

How to add and block websites for Flash-based content

As mentioned in the second method, you can easily allow multiple websites in Chrome to run Flash-based content. All websites will be added directly to the Allow section in the Flash settings of the Chrome browser. And in the same way, you can block any number of websites using the block list.

You can easily check which websites are on the allowed list and which ones are on the blocked list. You just have to navigate to the following address:

chrome: // settings / content / flash

Method 3: Check and update the version of Adobe Flash Player

Sometimes enabling Flash just doesn’t work and you still won’t be able to access Flash-based content in the Chrome browser. In such cases, you will need to update the version of Adobe Flash Player. Therefore, you must make sure that your browser has the latest version of Flash Player.

  1. Type chrome: // components / in the Chrome address bar.
  2. Scroll down to “Adobe Flash Player” and you will see the latest version of Adobe Flash Player that you have installed.

3.If you don’t have the latest version, then you have to click the “Check For Update” button.

Once the Adobe Flash Player is updated, your browser will work properly to run the Flash-based content.

Method 4: Install or reinstall Adobe Flash

If the Flash Player doesn’t work, or if you still can’t open Flash-based content, another way to solve this problem is to install or reinstall Adobe Flash Player on your system.

  1. Type https://adobe.com/go/chrome in the address bar of your browser.

2.Here you have to choose the operating system and the browser for which you want to download Flash Player.

3.For chrome, you have to choose PPAPI.

4.Now you have to click the Download Now button.

Method 5: Update Google Chrome

To check if an update is available, follow the steps below:

Note: It is advised to save all important tabs before updating Chrome.

1.Open Google Chrome by searching for it with the search bar or by clicking on the chrome icon available on the taskbar or on the desktop.

2.Google Chrome will open.

3.Click on the three dots icon available in the upper right corner.

4.Click the help button in the menu that opens.

5.In the Help option, click About Google Chrome.

6.If an update is available, Chrome will start updating automatically.

7.Once the updates are downloaded, you need to click the Relaunch button to finish updating Chrome.

8.After clicking Relaunch, Chrome will automatically close and install the updates.

After the updates are installed, Chrome will launch again and you can try opening the flash-based content, which should work fine this time.

Hope the above steps were helpful and you can now easily enable Flash for specific websites in Chrome, but if you still have any questions about this tutorial, feel free to ask them in the comment section.
