What is 2FA
Before going into the details of the procedure on how to enable 2FA on Fortnite , I think it is of fundamental importance to explain what it is. Well, 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication) is a method that allows you to set a security code generated at regular intervals to prevent someone else from accessing your account without permission, by requesting a “disposable” code. “(In addition to the standard password) that is delivered on one of the devices in the user’s possession.
Let’s take a practical example: if an attacker wants to access your Fortnite account, they will probably do so from a device that is not owned by you. If you have not activated 2FA, the attacker will only need to know the e-mail address and password of your account. This means that your account could be easily compromised if the Epic Games platform is hacked.
By activating, instead, the two-factor authentication , the attacker would not be able to access your account, as, in addition to the standard password of the account, he will be asked to enter an additional unique code that will be sent to a device in your possession . How to activate 2FA Fortnite
To enable 2FA in Fortnite, connected to the official website of Epic Games using any Web browser and type in your email address and your password , or press one of several social icons available ( PlayStation , Xbox , Nintendo Switch , Facebook and Google ) to authenticate you through their accounts. Once you have entered the data, press the Login button and the page to manage two-factor authentication will appear on the screen.
If this does not happen, you may need to turn your provisional account into an Epic Games account. In this case, I advise you to pay attention to the instructions that appear on the screen, since in some cases you may lose the progress related to your account. At this point, choose whether you want to receive the unlock code for subsequent authentication via email (by pressing the ENABLE E-MAIL AUTHENTICATION item ) or whether to use a software called App Authenticator (by pressing ACTIVATE THE AUTHENTICATOR APP ). My advice is to use the e-mail address, which is definitely the most convenient method of obtaining the code and does not require the download of third-party applications.
In case you have chosen email authentication, you will receive an email message containing a 6-digit code . Now you just have to type this code in the text field and click on CONTINUE . This way you have enabled 2FA via email.
If, on the other hand, you have decided to take advantage of an Authenticator App , in general you have to download an application among those recommended by Epic Games and use it to scan the QR Code that appears on the screen. Alternatively, you can also take advantage of the activation code that is provided to you by the official Epic Games website. Unfortunately I cannot be more precise in my indications, as each application requires a different procedure, but below you will find more details on this topic.
How to get the unlock code
Once you have activated 2FA (two-factor authentication), Fortnite will ask you to enter a security code every time you log in from a device on which you have never played the Epic Games title. There are many methods of obtaining this code, so shortly I’ll explain which are the most common.
Email authentication
One of the most used methods to obtain the unlock code linked to two-factor authentication is to take advantage of your email address .
In fact, it simply provides that Epic Games sends a 6-digit number to the user every time the latter logs in to their account from a new device. In this way you will therefore always be informed about the security of your profile and to unlock the game you only have to enter the aforementioned code in the appropriate text field. Nothing simpler.
Google Authenticator
Many people use Google products on a daily basis : why not use the official Authenticator App of a company you already know?
To download and install the Google Authenticator application , you need to open the Play Store (if you have an Android device) or the App Store (if you have an iPhone or iPad), search for ” google authenticator ” and tap the icon of the ‘app (a gray’ G ‘in the shape of a handle). At this point, click on the Install / Get button and, if asked, verify your identity.
Once the application is installed, start it and press the START item . Then, read the instructions that appear on the screen and select the END item . Once this is done, click on Read barcode or Enter provided code and, once the account is set up correctly, you will have a 6-digit number that will be updated at regular intervals. The latter is the unlock code that you will need to enter when prompted.
LastPass Authenticator
LastPass Authenticator is one of the most used applications for generating access codes for 2FA from smartphones and tablets. Many prefer this software to others because of its ease of use.
To take advantage of LastPass Authenticator, download the application by starting the Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS), searching for ” lastpass authenticator ” within the latter and selecting the software icon (a white shield on the background red) in the search results. Once this is done, press the Install / Get button and, if you are on iOS, verify your identity via Face ID, Touch ID or Apple ID password.
Once the application is started, press on the OK item and then on Allow to provide it with all the permissions it needs to work properly. Then, tap on Add New Account and then on Scan barcode (to scan the QR Code) or Enter security key (to take advantage of the appropriate code). In case you have set up your account, here you will find the unlock code , which will be updated at regular intervals.
Microsoft Authenticator
For some time now, Microsoft has also launched into the world of App Authenticator, launching a software of this type available for smartphones and tablets.
To use it, you just have to start the Play Store (if you use Android) or the App Store (if you have an iPhone or iPad), search for “ microsoft authenticator ” and select the app icon (a white padlock on a blue background). At this point, click on Install / Get and, if you are using an iOS device, verify your identity via Face ID, Touch ID or Apple ID password.
Once the application has been downloaded, start it, tap on INTRODUCTION and press OK . Then, tap on the blue ‘ + ‘ button and select the item Other account (Google, Facebook and so on) .
Subsequently, press on the item Allow and frame the QR Code using the camera of your smartphone. Once this is done, you will find the unlock code on the page that will appear on the screen. Perfect, you have successfully associated your account!
Authy
How do you say? Do the solutions described above not convince you? Well, there is an application slightly different from the others, which stands out above all due to the higher degree of security and the numerous additional features (such as account backup): Authy .
To use the app in question, you must first download and install it on your device. To do this, open the Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS), search for “ authy ” and select the software icon (two white ‘U’ on a red background). At this point, tap on Install / Get and, if you are on iOS, verify your identity using Face ID, Touch ID or Apple ID password.
Once the application is started, enter your mobile number and the country code (eg +39 for Italy) in the appropriate text fields and tap on the OK item . Then, type in your email address and choose whether to verify your identity by call (by tapping on PHONE CALL ) or by message (by pressing on the SMS option ). In any case, you will be provided with a code to enter in the appropriate text field. Great, your Authy account has been created.
At this point, tap the blue ‘ + ‘ button and enter the backup password and confirmation of the backup password , which you will need to recover your account in case you lose your credentials. At this point, tap on the ENABLE BACKUPS item and, subsequently, on the black SCAN QR CODE button (to scan the QR Code) or on the Enter key manually item (to type the appropriate code). Once this is done, press on the DONE item and the unlock code you were looking for will appear on the screen .
In case of doubts or problems
In case of doubts or problems regarding the 2FA of Fortnite, you can contact the Epic Games support center . To do this, connect to the official website of the well-known software house and write ” 2fa ” in the search field at the top right. The portal will explain to you if you can proceed independently or not. However, I recommend that you read and put into practice all the instructions that appear on the screen.

At this point, select the Epic Games account update item , type a brief description of the problem in the appropriate box and complete the security text .
