Do you want to show in chat exactly what keys you press during tense close-quarters battles that seem impossible?

Displaying keyboard and mouse button presses on the screen is a great way to prevent hacks, demonstrate specific button combinations for tactics, or just show off your insane skills.

Let’s show you exactly how you can set up your on-screen keyboard and mouse to show up on your Twitch stream.

How to set up the on-screen keyboard and mouse

Step 1Download Nohboard (Keyboard Renderer)

Nohboard is the tool we are going to use to showcase our keyboard and mouse on the screen.

When downloading, choose to download the zip folder to your desktop. Once downloaded, you can unzip the folder to see multiple files. Click on the application file to download Nohboard.

When the app opens, it will display a small blue square. Right-click in the square and select “Download Keyboard”.

It will display 8 different keyboard types that you can use. The one you’ll want to use is called joao7yt. This keyboard style shows the left side of the keyboard (game keys) and the mouse.

Some of the keyboard layouts may be useful for your specific use, however for gamers, your best bet is joao7yt.

Once you have selected a keyboard, you can customize the keyboard theme to your liking. I recommend choosing a style similar to your stream overlays.

If you press some keys or move your mouse, you will see those keys light up in Nohboard.

Now we need to add this display to our Streamlabs/OBS so we can showcase it live.

Step 2: Add a keyboard and mouse display to Streamlabs/OBS.

To add a keyboard and mouse display to OBS/Streamlabs, we need to add it as a new source and highlight the green background color.

Streamlabs Tutorial – How to Add NohBoard to Streamlabs

Open Streamlabs and navigate to the scene where you want to add a display.

Then go to Sources -> + (Add Source) -> Window Capture.

Give your new source a name (Keyboard and Mouse Capture). Select “Done” and a menu will appear to select settings for the window capture.

For the window, select: Nohboard as the source and leave everything else as default.

You should now be able to see the keyboard and mouse in your scene, however the green background is still there. We need to remove this and make the background transparent using the chroma key filter .

Right-click on the Nohboard window and select filters. Click the + button and select Chroma key as the filter type.

Select “Done” and leave all settings as default. You will now have a keyboard and mouse on a screen with a transparent background.

You are now ready to demonstrate your keyboard and mouse skills on a screen in front of an audience.

OBS Tutorial – How to Add Nohboard to OBS Studio

  • Open OBS and navigate to the scene you want to add a keyboard and mouse overlay to.
  • Then go to Sources -> + (Add Source) -> Window Capture.
  • Name the window capture (keyboard and mouse overlay) and click OK.
  • Select your window as Nohboard and leave the other settings as default, then click OK.

You will now see the keyboard and mouse in your scene, however the background will still be green. We want to remove this from the chroma key.

To do this, right-click on your keyboard and mouse and select filters.

Click + and select a chroma key , then click OK.

You will now see that the green background has been removed. You can click “Close” and position the keyboard and mouse anywhere in the scene.

Now you can showcase your keyboard and mouse skills live with this overlay.

Summarizing

Now you can show off your expert skills or teach people how to do certain moves in games with this overlay. The Nohboard program is a great way for some streamers to showcase their skills live while helping their audience improve at the game.
