Learn how to take down Forge Golems in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree using the right leg armor and strategic tactics.Have you encountered a fire giant with reinforced legs in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree and don’t know how to defeat it? In this guide we explain the trick to defeat the colossal enemies of the DLC.

If you’re already exploring the Shadow Realm, there’s a good chance you’ve had your first run-in with a Forge Golem . These fire giants are one of the new enemy types that have been included in Shadow of the Erdtree , Elden Ring ‘s colossal DLC .

To be exact, the forge golems are what are known as ‘field bosses’: enemies that appear in the open world of Shadow of the Erdtree and act as optional bosses. Once defeated they do not respawn and drop new tears for the miracle doctor .

So, as you may have guessed, it is highly recommended to kill all the fire giants you see. However, they are not going to make things easy for us, as you will surely have seen after fighting the one who welcomes us to the Shadow Realm.

How to Defeat Forge Golems with Leg Armor in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

Forge golems can be divided into two types: normal ones and those with reinforced legs .

The first ones are the most common and don’t have much mystery; you just have to attack their legs while dodging their stomps until they fall to the ground, a moment that you should take advantage of to carry out a critical attack on their mask, which causes a lot of damage.

Those with reinforced legs, however, have a trick. If you try attacking their limbs, you will find that you do not cause any damage . You can tell that a golem has reinforced legs if you cannot target its legs when you lock on.

So you have to follow another strategy to defeat the forge golems with reinforced legs … And it is a strategy that at first may seem contradictory: you have to use fire to defeat them.

More specifically, you must craft two new items that have been included in Shadow of the Erdtree: the Large Fire Flask and the Large Forge Flask .

In order to craft them, you first need to find two recipe books in the Shadow Realm: the Grand Jar-Lieutenant’s Manual (1) and the Grand Jar-Lieutenant’s Manual (2) .

The first one can be found as soon as you arrive in the Shadow Realm, in the place known as the Scorched Ruins . On some stairs, on the right side of the ruins, you will find a corpse that holds the recipe book to make the Large Fire Flask.

The second one isn’t too far from the first one – follow the path of ruins north and past the golem and Miquella’s first cross you’ll see the large Ellac Bridge. Don’t cross the bridge yet, instead continue north and stick to the cliff on the right until you can drop down to the lower level.

Head back a few yards along this new path and you’ll soon come across an old hut known as the Weathered Traveler’s Rest . Inside it awaits the second Jar-Lieutenant’s Manual, which allows you to craft the Large Forge Flask.

Now, to craft both items, you need the necessary materials. First, you need to get your hands on some Large Cracked Jars ; like all jars, these items are returned to your inventory once you’ve used them. You can find three of them in one of the first optional dungeons, Belurat Prison.

For the Large Fire Flask you need 3 x Red Meat Mushroom  and 2 x Black Igniopose . These items are relatively common and you shouldn’t have any trouble finding them in the Shadow Realm.
