How to create SmartThings routines

We are going to teach you how to create ‘scenes’ within the SmartThings application, Samsung’s service to manage home automation. It is a different proposal to the Bixby quick commands , although we will have to use said assistant to launch these scenes . By default, Samsung mobiles have Bixby configured, so there is no major problem.

With these scenes we can configure actions through voice commands , actions that will change depending on the devices we have at home. SmartThings brings together all compatible devices such as Samsung televisions, devices such as Philips Hue, Ecolink wall switches and much more.

How to create SmartThings routines

The first thing you will have to do is, if you don’t have it installed, download the SmartThings application. This is the application that Samsung has to manage home devices , such as televisions, smart plugs, light bulbs, SmartTag and others.

Once you have it installed and you have linked the compatible devices , you just have to follow these steps to create a routine within the SmartThings application itself. It is a quick and easy process.

  • Go to the app settings, in the menu
  • Click on the ‘scenes’ section
  • Hit the ‘+’ button to create a new scene
  • Give it a name
  • Select the actions you want (the more devices linked, the more actions available)
  • Save it

Clever. Our recommendation is to give the scenes a simple name, such as ‘good morning’. You will only have to say to the mobile ‘Hi Bixby, good morning’ so that, for example, it turns on the office light bulbs or any other action that we want.

The routines are saved on the main SmartThings screen , so we can quickly modify, delete or manage them at a glance. The more devices we have compatible with the app, the more complete the routines can be.
