How to create a shortcut on the desktop of my PC?
As you know, Windows will always provide us with different alternatives to achieve a single function, whether you want to copy and paste a file or image, or delete a document or folder. You can do all this and more in various ways and creating shortcuts is no exception. That is why we will offer you two ways to achieve it.
With my PC keyboard
Thanks to the official Microsoft page, we can have a detailed list of the commands and shortcuts available in Windows. However, there is none that allows us to create a shortcut. However, some keyboards have a particular option that may work for you.
The key you’ll use is one that looks like a document symbol. In order to use and create a new shortcut of something we want, you have to follow these steps:
- Locate the file, document, folder you want to create the shortcut to.
- You can support yourself with left click to select.
- When you have chosen it, press this key. It is located next to right ALT.
- A list will be displayed with options to choose from.
- You can use the navigation arrowsto go to where it says “Create shortcut”.
- When you get to that option, press Enter and a new icon will be created right next to the one you have selected.
Keep in mind that it is mandatory to use the mouse to be able to select a document or file. You can do this through the navigation arrows on your keyboard and without using third-party applications . It’s just a matter of having a little patience and getting used to this method.
Create shortcut with options on right click
Now, in terms of steps and procedures with the click of the mouse it becomes much faster and more precise. To create a mouse shortcut, you have to do the following:
- Locate the folders, files, or programs you want to create the shortcut for.
- Once you have shaded everything, you will press on one of them with right click.
- The same window will be displayed with the list
- Go to the option that will allow you to create shortcuts and that’s it.
Keep in mind an important fact, and that is that through the CTRL key or the SHIFT key together with the left click you can make two different types of selection. While with the combination CTRL + Left Click you can select files one by one, with the other key you have a greater range of choice.
Now, if you find it more comfortable to do all that with just the mouse, it’s up to you. The same goes for those who want to remove the desktop search bar . This with the intention of having more space for shortcuts.
How to download a shortcut from my computer?
Generally speaking, you can’t download a shortcut . For the sake of clarity and to avoid confusion later, a shortcut is created from something that already exists and is hosted on a server, computer, or memory. Let’s imagine the following case that you have a USB stick in which you have a folder with files. When you connect it to the computer, you can do 3 things:
- Copy the information and paste it on your PC
- Cut it and have it on your computer and freeing up space on the USB stick
- Creating a direct access
What happens with the last option is that, although it is true that you can do it, the shortcut will disappear once you remove the memory from the USB port . There is a chance that the icon will stay there, but when you try to run it, it will throw you an error. So you can’t download internet shortcuts for something in particular. That you can create an access yes, but not download them. They are not files with weight as such. They are more like a direct shortcut to a location of a file, document, folder or program.
Why can’t I create shortcuts on the Windows desktop and how to fix it?
It is very rare that you cannot create a shortcut in Windows . Sometimes it can be due to a virus that has corrupted files and processes which will not allow you to do this. - o exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
- o exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- o Sfc /scannow
