What are the steps to create a restore point manually?
By factory default, our Windows 10 operating system is programmed to create restore points as soon as we install new programs . This helps to increase security, since if an error occurs in the system after installing said program, then you will be able to recover all the information and settings that you had before installing said program.
But the truth is that we also have the option of creating these restore points automatically , which we recommend that you do from time to time, since this way you can have the information on your hard drive and the current configurations of your system protected. .
- Go to the Windows search bar and type ‘Create a restore point’.
- When you are in the new window, select the ‘Create’ option.
- Add a description to easily identify the restore point.
- Click ‘Create’.
- Once the restore point has been created select ‘Close’.
What to do if Windows won’t let you create a restore point?
Despite how easy it may be to create a new restore point, there may be cases in which our system will not allow it .
This may be due to failures in the operating system files , missing important files or registries or because we simply need to update Windows 10 , so you should check if your system requires any update.
In the event that you cannot create a new restore point and that you have made sure that the system does not need any update, then most likely you have a system failure , but do not worry, to be able to repair it you just have to follow this steps:
- Press the ‘Windows’ key in combination with the ‘X’ key.
- Then, in the pop-up window, select the ‘Command Prompt (Admin)’ option.
- Once this is done you have to execute, one by one, the following commands:
- sfc /scannow
- exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
- exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
- exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
Once this is done, the bugs in your operating system files should be fixed , so you should now be able to create a new restore point.
Where can you see the restore points that are available?
The truth is that it is very easy to verify the restore points in Windows and there are two ways to do it , the first is to check them from the system properties and the second is through the command prompt. You just have to follow these steps:
- Press the ‘Windows’ + R keys.
- Type ‘rstrui’ and press ok.
- When the new window opens, click ‘Next’.
Once you have followed these steps, you will be shown a list with the available restore points on your system. Note that these are shown to you to do a system restore, so after reviewing them you have to click the ‘Cancel’ button .
As we mentioned before, there are two ways to review the restore points that we have available on our computer. Now that we’ve seen how to do it from system properties, let’s see how to do it with command prompt commands :
- Press the ‘Windows’ key + X.
- Select the ‘Command Prompt (Admin)’ option.
- When you have opened the command prompt, enter the command ‘Get-ComputerRestorePoint’.
Once this is done, you will be shown a list with all the restore points that you have available on your system, as well as the details of their creation. As you can see, it is a procedure that is far from complicated.
