How to connect the Kobold robot to Alexa

Do you have a Kobold VR200 or VR300 robot vacuum cleaner at home and have been wondering if it can be connected to Alexa to control it with voice commands? The answer is obviously Yes and not only, once you have configured your vr200 robot with your home network you can also control it remotely via the app made available directly by vorwerk . In this guide I will explain how to connect the pixie robot to alexa.

Preliminary operations

If you own a VR200 robot vacuum cleaner, to be able to connect it to Amazon Alexa, you will first need to update the software necessary to unlock the connection function to wifi networks.

To perform this operation you will need a completely empty USB key (it is important that it does not contain any files) and the Kobold USB adapter cable (which you should have found inside the box of the Kobold VR200 when you bought it).

To update the VR200 Kobold robot download the updated version from here or connect directly to the Kobold updates page and download the latest version. Unzip the downloaded zip file and put its contents inside a completely empty USB stick ; at the end of the operation inside the key you should see only a folder called “RobotData”.

At this point, open the dust collection compartment of your VR200 and, if present, remove the rubber protection from the USB port. Connect the USB key to the Robot using the Kobold USB adapter cable

Once the key is connected, the Robot LED indicators should light up green to indicate that the software update is in progress. Wait until the LEDs light up red and you hear an acoustic signal (the update takes a few minutes).

Once done, put the rubber protector back into the USB port and close the goblin compartment. The software update is completed.

Install the Kobold app

At this point you will need to install the free elf app. The app is available for ios on the Apple store or at this address and for android at this address or directly from the google store.

Once you have downloaded the app, start it and follow the instructions of the installation wizard. Basically the wizard will make you create an account on the vorwerk servers (it’s all free, don’t worry) and will make you configure the parameters of your wifi network on the robot vacuum cleaner. The app will allow you to remotely control your elf robot in the future and will unlock many additional features that you didn’t even know before; you can also use this app to use your mobile phone to control your robot vacuum cleaner.

All you have to do now is perform the last step, that is to associate the account you have created on the vorwerk servers to Alexa using a skill. To do this you have to open the Alexa app on your mobile phone and click on the button with three lines at the top left to open the side menu and then click on skills. Look for the skill called Kobold Robot and install it (if you don’t know how to install a skill, see this guide)

immediately after enabling the skill you will be asked to enter the Kobold credentials and you will have to enter the user you have previously created (to install the Kobold app). Once the procedure is completed Alexa will automatically detect your robot vacuum cleaner and you will be ready to use it via voice commands.
