There is a way to manually configure wireless networks on the Nintendo Switch. It makes more sense on specific networks that require devices to be configured.

  1. In the Settings ( ), select “Internet” and “Internet Settings”;
  2. Scroll to the end of the list of networks in “Found Networks”;
  3. Select “Manual Configuration”;
  4. Select one of the following options and enter the data you should have:

  • Network Name (that you want to give)
  • SSID (network name of the Wi-Fi router you are connecting to)
  • In Security, select the security type of the router and enter the Wi-Fi password
  • In IP Address Settings, select “Automatic” to have the IP obtained directly from the router or “Manual” to enter IP, netmask and gateway.
  • In DNS Settings , select “Automatic” to have the DNS settings obtained from the router or “Manual” to enter the primary and secondary DNS.
  • In Proxy Settings , select “No” if you are not using a proxy or “Yes” and enter the required proxy server, port and authentication information.
  • In MTU, enter the appropriate MTU value (1400).
  • Under Connecting to Hidden Networks, select “Yes” to allow the console to connect to hidden networks (networks that do not broadcast your SSID) or “No”.

After adjusting the information, select “Save” and “Connect to This Network” to test the connection you saved or “Back” to return to the Internet settings.

When manually adding a wireless Internet connection, it is only mandatory to update the SSID (real network name) configuration. All other settings can be updated later or left as defaults, depending on requirements.

Most problems are caused by trying to connect to a hidden network. That is, the one that does not appear in the standard search for the connection. When manually configuring with the correct name (SSID) and allowing connection to hidden networks, it should be resolved.
