Snowrunner offers brutal challenges, and Aftermath of the Storm is one of them

What is special about the Aftermath of the Storm challenge?

First of all, these are, of course, show-offs. After completion, you can boast on the Snowrunner subsite on the DTF: “I passed all the tests, despite the difficulties.” Completing the aftermath of the storm itself will not provide any reward other than moral satisfaction, but completing all four challenges in the series will unlock unique figurines – decorations for the hood of your truck. In other words, this is not just pumping up the heart rate, but also a tangible benefit for the player.

The player is thrown onto a map of medium difficulty, resembling Michigan in appearance. However, at his disposal are only the road International Transtar and the starting International Fleetstar without all-wheel drive, but with a differential lock.

The Transtar is equipped with a high seat, and next to it sits a heavy low-bed semi-trailer for transporting vehicles. Fleetstar is equipped with a heavy crane. Both trucks have some basic off-road tires, meaning they are not designed to handle deep mud.

The objective of this challenge is to find and deliver four light off-road vehicles – scouts, according to the game’s terminology. But this is still a test, so the task is more difficult than it seems. The main difficulty is that the scouts’ locations are unknown, the first half of the map is covered with the fog of war, and the second half is completely hidden behind a black curtain. Well, the transport is very specific: the lack of all-wheel drive and rather simple, albeit beautiful, tires.

Walkthrough

The first and most logical action that the player must perform is to open the observation tower. But opening the tower will not solve all problems. The tower only removes the black curtain for the first half of the map. Unfortunately, even if lost scouts are located in an open area, they will not be displayed on the map; you will have to look for them yourself. Well, that is, they will be displayed on the map, but not a single new marker will appear in the interface; you will have to look for cars with your eyes. The game turns into an interesting “hidden object” style quest.

At first, this causes confusion and a desire to find a map on the Internet with the location of all the scouts indicated. But that would be too simple; it’s much more interesting to study the map millimeter by millimeter, trying to make out small silhouettes of cars on it. It’s difficult, but after a while the excitement even wakes up, you want to find them all on your own, and then save them.

Two out of four scouts are loaded

The first piece of advice is to not try to find them all in one sitting. It’s much better to look at the map once, look at the map a second time, find at least one scout, go pour yourself some tea, come back, look at the map again. Scouts have a way of being discovered with unexpectedly fresh eyes

If you want to find all the scouts yourself, I suggest looking at the piece of the map presented above.

If you don’t want to look for hidden cars at all, you can open the spoiler using the link , on it I marked the location of all four cars.

What not to worry about . You definitely don’t have to worry about your fuel supply. On such a small map there are a huge number of gas stations and even one 100% full fuel tank. So you can replenish fuel reserves at any time during the test.

There is no need to worry about fuel, there are plenty of gas stations

What you need to worry about is driving carefully. This is, of course, an obvious thing – the player has only two trucks at his disposal and no other help, but driving carefully and not overturning is critically important. If one truck overturns, you will have to use the second one as a rescuer. It’s hardly pleasant to drive a rear-wheel drive truck through the mud and try to turn over your fellow truck.

By the way, with a high probability, for reconnaissance and revenue from scouts, the player will prefer Fleetstar to a road bike. At least because it has a differential lock. This means that if the Fleetstar falls, you will have to call the highway Transtar to the rescue. Turning over a truck with a heavy crane using a highway Transtar is a lot of fun, but you probably won’t want to do it again.

But in fact, a road bike in this situation turns out to be a more reliable companion. A heavy semi-trailer makes it more difficult to overturn. But turning Fleetstar over won’t be difficult. A heavy crane, like a sail, can easily give a truck the momentum to fall. The slightest bump or stone, one careless movement and the one and only Fleetstar is already lying on its side. Don’t despair, it’s possible to save it, but it’s better to drive more carefully so you don’t have to test it the hard way.

Another point worth remembering is the lack of repair parts. A road bike has a very low pain threshold: just a couple of hits with the hood on a rock will send the engine into the red zone. This means loss of power and increased fuel consumption – hardly desirable satellites to test without the ability to call for backup. In addition, the map has several puddles, which are dangerous because none of the trucks have a snorkel. It’s very easy to catch a water hammer, so it’s better to avoid puddles.

Also, when using a crane, it is recommended not to check its lifting capacity. Don’t catch lost Scouts on the roof while trying to lift them up. Fleetstar is too light; it would be better to hook the scout onto the bumper and quietly pull it towards you. When the scout gets close enough, lift him up. It is better to pull out the Loadstar by throwing the crane boom over the cabin, and not vice versa. Firstly, this scout sits too far back, and secondly, it weighs too much.

Another point to beware of is the feeling of omnipotence when the scouts have already been found and are heading towards the port. The road to the port can be very treacherous: you should take extra care on the turns and descents, as well as on the turns going down the mountain. By the way, since only two scouts can fit on a semi-trailer, and you need to find and deliver four pieces, you can use a life hack with a winch. We hook one scout with a winch to the semi-trailer, and the other with a winch to the Fleetstar. This is a much simpler task than making two moves.

Conclusion

Overall, if you follow the above simple guidelines, completing Hurricane Aftermath will not be difficult. Yes, this can be a long test and a little unusual, because there is no way to save, but in general, with due care and diligence, completing the tests will not be difficult. And you will be one step closer to the treasured figures on the hood.
