How to Clear RAM on iPhone

Modern smartphones allow applications to run in the background. At some point, this can lead to a number of problems, so it makes sense to clean the RAM from time to time. We will tell you how to do this on the iPhone in this article.

Full RAM will not allow the iPhone to leave information about each application in the buffer. Simply put, the smartphone has too few free resources to keep each open program in the “RAM”. What can this lead to?

  • Applications run slower;
  • If you have a large number of tabs open in your browser (several dozen or more), Safari may reset them, causing you to lose all previously opened windows from the site;
  • An app that was previously used on your iPhone may crash to the home screen. Any previously used settings (for example, in a photo editing app) will be reset unless you save them beforehand;
  • If you played a game and minimized it to the manager, with a heavy load on the OS you risk losing your saved progress. If the RAM is overloaded, the next time you use the software you will be thrown to the start menu.

How to Clear RAM on iPhone

There are three simple methods: closing active applications via the menu, forced closing via iOS settings, and rebooting the smartphone. Let’s look at each in more detail.

Timely monitor the number of applications that are “in reserve” of RAM. Apple came up with gesture control. As practice has shown, it is more convenient to control iOS with your fingers than when using Home, which the company abandoned with the release of the “ten” (with the exception of the budget series iPhone SE)

The iPhone allows you to unload multiple apps from RAM at once, which is especially useful if you have a lot of programs running in the background. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Go to the home screen and swipe from the bottom of the screen to the middle;
  • In the menu that opens, swipe all available programs;
  • You can close them not one by one, but simultaneously by placing several fingers on the screen and swiping them simultaneously. This will unload the apps from RAM.

iOS allows you to switch between open application tabs. Thanks to this, you can manually select the desired programs and remove them from the device’s memory. To select software, you need to make a careful swipe to the right or left.

But don’t overdo it. Apple has previously mentioned that opening and closing apps is a resource-intensive process for battery life. True, no one has conducted tests, but we warned you.

Resetting Apps by Restarting iPhone

Apps can be closed when you reboot your iPhone. This way, you can unload tabs not only with gestures, but also with a physical button. On iPhone, forcing an app to close means unloading it from RAM. If the app continues to run after you try to close it, you can use this method.

  • Press and hold the upper volume rocker and the lock button;
  • Wait for the menu where the system will offer to turn off the iPhone;
  • Drag the slider to the right;
  • Wait until the device turns off;
  • Press and hold the lock button until you see the apple icon.

“Download app” function via settings

There are also more radical methods. You can completely shut down the software through the iPhone settings. To do this:

  • Go to “Settings”;
  • Go to the “General” section and select the desired application;
  • In the menu that opens, click the “Download” button to force close the application.

After the above actions, the program will be closed immediately. Do not worry, documents and data will remain in the iPhone memory. All necessary information about settings and personal data will remain in the internal storage.
