On the wave of various blockings and bans, interest in Russian software has increased. Thus, many users have gradually begun to switch from Google Chrome, which “eats” a lot of RAM and slows down the work of a PC, laptop or smartphone, to a worthy alternative – Yandex Browser.
In addition, this is one of the few browsers where we will soon be able to make payment transactions, especially with Sber cards. After all, the MinCyber certificates required for this will only be available in certain browsers – Yandex and Atom (developer – VK).
In this article, we will tell you how to improve the performance of your Yandex Browser by clearing the cache. We will provide detailed step-by-step instructions.
What is cache in browser
Cache is a collective designation of files that are needed for a quick re-entry to any site. For example, you visited the social networks VK or OK through a browser – it saves a certain portion of technical data about this: the site’s html code, CSS styles, various media files (pictures, audio and video). This data is stored on a specific section of your disk, in a separate folder.
Why is this necessary? The next time you load the same pages through the browser, it will “take” the cache closer, from the same folder on your PC, laptop, phone, and will not go to search and download information from the vastness of the network. Saving Internet resources and fast loading of pages.
What are cookies?
Another “portion” of data that your device saves when you browse websites in a browser is cookies. This information includes logins and passwords, as well as various website settings and statistics about your visits and actions on these pages. Cookies can be temporary or permanent. They also need to be cleared periodically on your devices, however, you will have to re-enter passwords and logins on the websites you need.
To better understand why they are needed, imagine that you were looking for some product through a search — let’s say, a bicycle. And after some time, you began to see bicycle ads on your VK or when checking your incoming mail. Services use your data to show targeted advertising that you “need”, in their opinion.
Why you need to clear your browser cache and cookies
Firstly, the memory capacity of your devices is not infinite. And if you surf the Internet a lot and for a long time, then such data gradually clutters up your special folder.
Secondly, timely clearing of the browser cache will help to avoid various errors when loading the page. For example, in the case when the developer has updated some elements on the site, and your browser by default tries to load old elements from the cache. An error may occur when loading the page, its incorrect display.
How to clear cache and cookies in Yandex Browser
To clear your browser of cached or cookie files, you need to perform simple actions in a few clicks. Instructions for different devices are given below.
On a PC or laptop
Via Yandex Browser
The easiest way to clear your browser cache is in Yandex itself.
- In the upper right corner, find three short stripes near the “Close” or “Minimize” buttons. When you hover over them, you will see the inscription “Yandex Browser Settings”.
- Left-click on these lines and in the drop-down menu select “History” → “Clear history” → check the desired items → “Clear”.
Manually
This method is suitable for those who like to “poke around” in computer files and don’t mind making a few extra moves without opening the browser. To do this, you need to:
- Find the folder where the Yandex Browser cache is stored (most often, it is located at the address indicated on the screenshot);
- Select the Cache folder;
- Press Del on the keyboard or right-click on the folder, then delete;
- Confirm the action and enjoy the absence of old cache files in Yandex Browser
By the way, you can see on the screenshot that even if you opened just a couple of pages, the cache is already 29 MB. Accordingly, after 8 hours of working surfing on different pages on the Internet, this volume will be significantly larger.
Through third-party software
Various applications, such as CCleaner, will help you get rid of not only the “garbage” on the gadget itself, but also the browser data. Depending on the application, the order of actions will vary.
If you have chosen CCleaner as an application for cleaning browser data, then after its installation, select the “Cleaning” item. In front of you are 2 tabs – applications and Windows. Select the second one and then manually click on the items you want to clean. In your case, this will not be Google Chrome, as in the screenshot, but Yandex Browser.
All you have to do is click the “Clean” button and you will get a clean browser without old data.
On the phone
Android
Here the steps are the same as for PC:
- Open your browser;
- Find the sign with three stripes in the lower right corner, click on it;
- Select the “History” item;
- The “Settings” item with a gear icon → Clear data → Select the “Cache” item → Click the yellow “Clear data” button.
iPhone
The step-by-step instructions for deleting the Yandex Browser cache on iPhone are exactly the same:
- Open your browser;
- Find the sign with three stripes in the lower right corner, click on it;
- Select the “History” item;
- The “Settings” item with a gear icon → Clear data → Select the “Cache” item → Click the yellow “Clear data” button.
Now you can easily clear your browser from outdated cache and surf the Internet (for some time, until the next memory “overload”) quickly and without problems.
