First of all, you should know that Facebook does not allow you to use symbols, numbers, capital letters, repeating characters or punctuation marks used incorrectly in your name. Furthermore, it is not allowed to use characters belonging to different alphabets, offensive or allusive words or titles of any kind (eg professional or religious).
The general line, the main name used on Facebook should be the name used in real life, that is, the one reported in your identity document. However, a nickname is allowed if it is a variation of the real name (e.g. a diminutive). Please note that for the use of other nicknames or other names (e.g. professional name, maiden name or first name), there is a specific option to add them.
Finally, I would like to point out that Facebook allows you to change your name once every 60 days . So if you are wondering how to change your name on Facebook before 60 days , you must know that it is not possible to do this. However, if it’s been less than 48 hours since the last change, you can always undo the changes and go back to using the old name. Having clarified this, let’s see how to proceed.
How to change your name on Facebook from the app
The procedure to change your name on Facebook from the app is simple and fast: after starting the Facebook application for Android or iPhone / iPad devices , simply access your account settings, enter the new name to be displayed on your profile and save changes. How to change your name on Facebook on Android
To change your name on Facebook on Android , start the app of the famous social network and, if you haven’t already done so, log in to your account . Then press the ☰ button located in the top menu, select the Settings and privacy option and tap the Settings item .
In the new screen that appears, locate the Account section , press on the Personal and account settings option and tap on the Name item . At this point, enter the data you want to change in the Name , Middle name and Surname fields and press the Check changes button .
In the Preview screen of your new name , put the check mark next to the option to display the name you prefer (eg [name surname] , [surname name] , [ middle name surname] etc.), enter the password of the your Facebook account in the appropriate field and tap the Save changes button to change your name.
As mentioned in the opening lines of this guide, to change your name again you will have to wait 60 days from the last change. However, within 48 hours of changing your name, you can retrace your steps and cancel the changes made by pressing the Use previous name button : by doing so, the previous name will be restored but you will not be able to make new changes.
Please note that by accessing the section to change your name, by clicking on the Add nickname option , the first name visible next to the item Other names , you can add and modify additional names, such as the first name , the maiden name , the name with title and much more.
In this case, all you have to do is select the type of name you want to add / modify via the Name type drop-down menu , enter the name in question in the appropriate field and choose whether to make it visible in your profile, by putting the sign of tick next to the Visible option at the top of the profile . Then press the Save button and that’s it.
How to change name on Facebook on iPhone
The procedure for changing your name on Facebook on iPhone (and iPad ) is almost identical to what I have just indicated in reference to Android devices. Even in this case, in fact, it is sufficient to access the settings of your account and enter the new name to be used on Facebook.
To proceed, take your iPhone / iPad, start the app of the famous social network and, after logging in to your account , enter the Menu section by pressing the ☰ button located at the bottom.
Now, tap on the Settings and privacy item , select the Settings option and, in the Account section , press on the Personal information item . In the new screen that appears, then tap on the Name option , enter the data you want to change in the Name , Middle name and Surname fields and press the Check change button .
Finally, put the check mark next to the display option of the name you prefer among those listed in the Preview screen of your new name , enter the Facebook password in the appropriate field and tap the Save changes button , to save the changes and change first name.
In case of second thoughts, I remind you that you cannot change your name again before 60 days from the last change. However, by pressing on the option Use the previous name (option available only for 48 hours), you can undo the last changes and use the previous name again.
If, on the other hand, your intention is to change a nickname, first name or any other name that you have previously associated with your Facebook account, access the Name section following the instructions I gave you previously, locate the item Other names and click on the option Add a nickname, the first name .
At this point, select the type of name you wish to add / modify ( Nickname , Maiden name , First name , Married last name , Name with alternative spelling etc.) in the Name type drop-down menu , enter the name in question in the appropriate field and, after specifying whether to display the name on your profile or not, press the Save button to make the changes.
How to change your name on Facebook from your computer
If you prefer to change your name on Facebook from your computer , connect to the main page of the social network and, if you have not already done so, log in to your account: then enter your login details in the Email or telephone number and Password fields and click on the Login button .
At this point, press the arrow icon pointing down , at the top right, select the Settings and privacy option from the opened menu and click on the Settings item . In the General profile settings screen , click on the Edit option relating to the Name item , enter the data you want to change in the Name , Surname and possibly Middle name fields and click on the Check modification button .
Once this is done, put the check mark next to the name display option among those listed in the Preview screen of your new name , enter your Facebook password in the Password field and click on the Save button , to save the changes and change your name.
How do you say? Would you like to undo your last change and use the old name again? In that case, you can do this by clicking on the option Use the previous name available only for 48 hours from the last modification.
Even from a computer, you can add other names on Facebook, such as your first name or your nickname. To do this, access the Name section , click on the Add other names item and, in the Other names section , click on the Add a nickname, first name option .
Then select the type of name you want to add in the Name type drop-down menu , enter the name in question in the appropriate field and, if you want to display it on your profile, put the check mark next to the Visible option at the top of the profile . Finally, hit the Save button and that’s it.
How to change username on Facebook
If you are wondering if it is possible to change your username on Facebook , that is the name that is displayed in the URL of your profile and which is useful for other people to find you on the social network, you will be happy to know that the answer is yes, as long as to proceed from a computer.
In fact, via the Facebook app for smartphones and tablets or by connecting to the social network via the browser installed on your device (eg Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone / iPad), the option to change the username is not available.
Having clarified this, to change user name from computer , connected to the main Facebook page , click on the arrow icon pointing down located in the top menu and select the options Settings and privacy and Settings from the opened menu.
Now, click on the Edit item related to the Username option and, in the new page that opened, enter the name to be displayed in the URL of your profile in the Username field . Note that the name in question must be at least 5 characters long and should include your real name.
At this point, if you see the message The username is not available , it means that the name you have chosen is already used by another user and needs to be changed. How to change Facebook page name
If your intention is to change the Facebook page name , you should know that you can only do this if you have the role of administrator of the page you intend to change.
If this is your case, to change the name of a Facebook page from smartphones and tablets , start the social network app, tap the ☰ button and select the Pages option from the menu that is proposed to you. In the new screen displayed, tap on the page of your interest and press the gear wheel icon , at the top right.
At this point, select the Information option of the page and, in the Information section , tap on the Name item . In the Request a new name for the page screen , enter the new name to be associated with your page in the appropriate field and press the Continue and Request the change button to send your request to the Facebook staff.
If you prefer to proceed from a computer , connected to the main page of the social network , press on the Menu item (the dots icon ) located at the top right, click on the item Pages and access the Facebook page of your interest. Now, select the Settings and Page Information options visible in the left sidebar and, in the Edit Page Information screen , enter the new name for the page in the Name field .
Once this is done, click on any of the available items in the sidebar on the left in order to display the Confirm name change request screen : then press the Request change button to request the change of the name of your Facebook page.
Please note that the analysis process may take up to 3 days: if your request is accepted, you will not be able to hide the Facebook page or change its name again for 7 days.
