How to change the Wi-Fi password on the Euskaltel ZTE F6640 router

A couple of weeks ago one of the Euskaltel technicians stopped by to install the new symmetric fiber that the company is offering to its customers. This is an installation that involves several changes, including the replacement of the old router with the new Euskaltel ZTE F6640 router .

We are facing a router-modem that scares at first glance: large, quite heavy and shaped like a polygon of the Playstation Uno. Before leaving the technician I asked him where the access data to the router, the Wi-Fi password and others, and the Mr. very kindly told me that it was all written down on the back of the router.

The truth is that I did not want to entertain the technician any more, so I said thank you very much and he went the same place he came from. Later, more calmly, I took a look at the back of the router and obviously there was only the default Wi-Fi key. The technician had played it for me. Or rather, he hadn’t told me the whole truth.

Administrator username and password to access the Euskaltel ZTE F6640 router

Everyone knows that the first thing to do when you install a new router is to change the default Wi-Fi password, but for that it is necessary to have a username and password that allows us to access the router and carry out all those steps.

Of course, the access data to the router is not indicated on the back of the new ZTE F6640 router, and it seems that the Euskaltel technicians do not have instructions to provide this information to users either, so there is no choice but to investigate by our bill.

The IP address assigned to the router in my network is 192.168.1.1 , so once the address is loaded in the browser we are at the router’s login screen.

Reviewing the Euskaltel forum I see that there are many people with this same problem, and from the technical support they indicate that we enter the username “user” and the password “user” .

Problem solved? Not much less! After doing several tests, we discovered that this user who is sharing Euskaltel is a user without privileges , so we cannot even change the password to connect to the Wi-Fi network. Of course, many other router management options are also capped. We need an administrator user.

It seems that Euskaltel is not very keen on providing the router administrator credentials to its customers in the first instance. To do this, we must expressly request it from the operator by means of a private message in the forum along with our personal data or by calling the technical support telephone number.

How to change the Wi-Fi access password on the Euskaltel ZTE F6640 router

After a little more research, we have discovered that it is possible to change the password for the router’s Wi-Fi network without having to know the router’s administrator user .

  • Download the Euskaltel mobile app. You can find it available in the Android Play Store.
  • Once we have the app installed, we open it and click on the “WiFi” menu that we will see at the bottom of the screen.
  • This will show a list with all the Wi-Fi networks that we have active in our router.
  • Select the desired Wi-Fi network and click on “My WiFi password”.
  • Click on the pencil icon to change the password.
  • Set a new password and click on the “Change password” button.

And that’s all! In the wifi section of the Euskaltel app, if we click on a network we can also make other settings such as changing the SSID or the channel through which the signal is transmitted.

Unfortunately, this is all we can do without going to Euskaltel to provide us with the router administrator credentials. It is understood that by offering limited access the company will avoid reporting incidents by users, but this is something that customers with more advanced knowledge who want to have greater control over their network devices will undoubtedly not like.
