How to build the perfect shelter in Fallout Shelter

In the world of Fallout, after a nuclear war, people took refuge in atomic bunkers, where they lived for the next decades, while a nuclear winter raged on the surface. In Fallout Shelter, players take on the role of Overseer of one of these shelters. You build new premises, dig deeper floors and assign people to factories to provide the bunker with everything you need. Over time, the main question arises: how to make the shelter most effective?

We tried to make your life easier by collecting all the top tips to help you plan your underground lair and make it as efficient as possible.

Combine rooms, upgrade them and replace them with improved counterparts

Basic tips for Fallout Shelter, but let’s go over them. Rooms come in 3 sizes: small, medium and large. By default, one room is built, but by adding one or two more identical rooms to it, you will get a medium and large room, respectively. Size affects the amount of resources obtained from production.

The premises are being improved:

  1. select the room you want to improve;
  2. click on the green arrow up;
  3. click on the “Improvement” button.

There are 3 stages of improvement available for each room. Before pumping over production, make sure that the room is of the right size – you will not be able to expand it. A large third-stage enterprise is the most efficient.

Later, rooms will open, bringing more basic resources. There are 4 of them:

  • atomic generator– electricity;
  • water filtration room– water;
  • garden– food;
  • Yader-Cola bottling plant– food and water.

The Nuka-Cola plant is especially valuable, as it brings 2 basic resources at once.

Train villagers in special rooms

When rooms open, allowing you to increase the skills of residents, build one for each skill, if there are enough covers. Then send factory workers to these rooms. For example, power plant employees need to be sent to the gym to improve their Strength skill. After increasing the skill to the maximum, return it to the enterprise.

Pump the skill “Good luck” to all workers. High luck will increase the chance of getting caps while gathering resources and will lower the chance of incidents when speeding up an enterprise. Maximum luck for all employees of the enterprise will reduce the percentage of such incidents to 10%.

Skill “Perception” swing stalkers exploring the surface. It will increase the chance of finding rare items during the expedition and avoiding dangers. The developed “Kharzma” will allow the radio host to more successfully attract new residents to the shelter, and to ordinary residents to have a child faster.

Use robots to collect resources automatically

“Mr. Handy” will automatically collect resources on the floor where you send him. Several robots will be able to collect resources on several floors at once (there can be only one “Assistant” on one level of the bunker). They will continue to collect resources even when you log out. Send “Handy” only to where the enterprises are located. Otherwise, they will wander aimlessly around the floor, being distracted only by protecting the premises from attacks.

During incidents, it is better to send robots to safe floors so that they do not get hurt. It is possible to repair “Mister Helper” only after complete destruction by spending 2000 caps.

The robot is sold for real money, but it can be obtained as a reward for completing certain tasks.

Build power plants in different parts of the shelter

When the electricity is no longer enough, the rooms that are farthest from the generator will be disconnected. Therefore, when building a large bunker, stations should be distributed throughout the shelter.

The location of the elevators is important

One level of the play area is designed for 2 large rooms, 1 middle room and 2 elevator shafts. An effective layout would be the construction of mines between rooms. This will increase the mobility of residents, while minimizing travel times. During various incidents, you can quickly move residents around the shelter.

There is a trick to keep your elevator construction costs down. If during the construction of the mine, there are no other elevators above and below, then you will get an elevator on two floors at once.

Arm all residents

Distribute weapons to residents instead of storing them. Give powerful weapons to stalkers and residents working closest to the exit. Don’t forget to upgrade their gear if you find more powerful instances. Give old weapons to residents with a lower strength parameter. Try to change weak weapons for new ones regularly. Then your wards will be able to successfully repel the attacks of raiders and mutants.

Good weapons will be needed not only by the guards of the main entrance, but also by workers of nearby enterprises. Enemies attack each vault room for a limited time and then move to the next. The premises closest to the exit will be under the main blow, so it would be wise to issue better weapons to the workers in these premises.

Equip villagers to increase productivity

All costumes increase certain skills of the hard workers who wear them. Applying the right clothes will increase production efficiency. If a resident has the maximum level of some skill, then issuing a suit that increases this skill is useless. But until workers reach a high level, clothing will increase productivity.

Pets give bonuses to their owners. Consider the specifics of the bonus when you give an animal to a resident. Some pets increase work efficiency, while others allow you to deal increased damage. By correctly distributing the animals, you can improve the work of the entire shelter.

Send 2 people to guard the main entrance

You can assign two people to protect the entrance to your bunker. Equip them with powerful weapons, as well as equip them with armor that will increase the strength of the heroes. During the attack on the shelter, they will take the first blow on themselves. Do not be afraid to arm them with “Fat Men”: they will not be able to inflict any harm on each other, but they will probably lay down opponents.

The room can be improved like other rooms, but only 2 times. Once improved, opponents will need more time to break through.

Build more hospitals and laboratories

Build more infirmaries and laboratories as the bunker expands. With any attacks on the shelter (as well as during hunger), residents will quickly lose health and may die if the medicine is not given in time. Radiation is even more difficult. When exposed to radiation, the maximum health of people is reduced. Because of this, the effectiveness of stimulants is reduced. In such cases, antiradin will help out. It will reduce the effects of radiation on the body and increase maximum health.

In total, you can store up to 85 stimulants and the same amount of antiradiation, so building too many medical facilities is not worth it. The main thing is to make sure that there are enough medicines for the stalkers leaving on the expedition and for the residents remaining in the bunker.

Follow the mood of the residents

The good mood of the residents will increase their efficiency. To keep the wards in good shape, it is necessary to ensure that their health is normal (medicines will be needed) and that they do not lack food, water or electricity. You can boost their spirits by using a radio station (make sure the broadcast is aimed at the hideout, and not at the outside world). Also, residents of opposite sexes with a bad mood can be sent to the living room. Proximity will boost their spirits, and you will gain population growth.

Build more warehouses

Warehouse construction should be started immediately. All the things that residents wear take up space in the warehouse, so if your bunker has a large population, you will also need a lot of warehouses. Stalkers returning from raids will not be able to enter the shelter until there is enough space for loot in the warehouse. In this case, things can be sold immediately:

  1. open the window with information about the raid;
  2. tap the image of the item you want to sell;
  3. click Finish.

You can also sell items from the warehouse. It is enough to click on the item card and select the appropriate option.

Track population growth

The appearance of new inhabitants in the shelter will require more resources. Consumption of food and water will increase, and the construction of living rooms will additionally load the complex’s power grid. Therefore, if you do not have enough resources, postpone the increase in population. The radio station can be switched to broadcast within the vault: just click on the studio and toggle the button in the left corner. This will increase the happiness of the residents.

Pregnant residents can be sent to work. They will leave the room during incidents, but will work as usual the rest of the time.
