As you survive in Minecraft, your character will regularly encounter enemies that in turn impose negative effects. And they can do this not only with the help of potions. Some enemies have innate abilities that make it possible to do this. On the other hand, your character can do the same. And not only with the help of enchanted tools or weapons , but also with the help of prepared potions.
One of these potions is the so-called “Potion of Weakness”. In other words, thanks to such potions, you can impose negative effects on enemies in a similar way, which gives a significant advantage in battle.
However, the process of brewing such potions requires not only special skills, but also ingredients. Therefore, if you suddenly forgot how it is done and from what specific materials, or want to study all the known information in detail for the first time, then we recommend that you read the guide, which is presented below. It contains detailed information on all types of weakness potions.
Minecraft Weakness Potion: Review
All types of weakness potions are distinguished primarily by the color of the contents – the liquid inside the bottles has a clear black color. Exploding potions, in turn, have a different bottle, although the liquid still remains black. Otherwise, there are no external differences in weakness potions.
On the other hand, weakness potions differ partly in the ingredients for preparation, as well as in the properties. In addition, if many other potions are divided into 6 subtypes, then in this case there are only 4 varieties of weakness potions. Moreover, 2 of them are associated with exploding potions.
How to make a weakness potion in Minecraft?
Before you start brewing potions of weakness, it is worth understanding that first of all you need to have the basic ingredients and potion-making tools that are needed for the starting other ingredients. The point is that without these basic items, absolutely nothing will be created. So first make sure that you have:
- Brewing stand (serves as the main block for brewing potions).
- Blaze Powder (serves as fuel for the brewing stand).
- Empty flasks/flasks with water (serve as a starting base for some potions).
- Cauldron (in the Bedrock Edition of the game, it serves as a potion brewer).

- Cauldron (in the Bedrock Edition of the game, it serves as a potion brewer).
Once all the ingredients are obtained and ready, you can proceed to the cooking stage. And if it is suddenly difficult to understand the nuances of the cooking stand, then we recommend simply following the following instructions:
- You install the cooking stand and then open it.
- Fire Powder – must be placed in the upper left slot.
- Prepared spider eye – needs to be placed in the central top slot.
- Flask with water – must be received in the central lower slot (opposite the upper one).
- After you have done everything, all that remains is to wait for the cooking process to finish
Potion of Weakness +
It is an enhanced version of the regular Weakness Potion. Therefore, it imposes the same negative effect of “Weakness” on the target with damage reduced by 4 units, but the potion’s enhancement is reflected in the duration of action. The duration of the enhanced Weakness Potion is 4 minutes. Otherwise, the differences of this type of potion concern only the ingredients. Since to create it, you need to have:
- Red Dust (better known as “Redstone”, mined from blocks of red ore).
- A regular weakness potion (it is needed as a so-called “foundation”, that is, the basic potion will simply be improved).
Once the ingredients have been collected, then you can safely begin the process of brewing. However, if suddenly some moments in the brewing stand remain unclear, then we recommend following the following instructions:
- You install the cooking stand and then open it.
- Fire Powder – must be placed in the upper left slot.
- Red dust – must be placed in the central top slot.
- Regular Potion of Weakness – must be placed in the center bottom slot (opposite the top one).
Exploding Potion of Weakness
The key feature of splash potions, like these types, is that they can be thrown. Otherwise, apart from the distinctive ingredients, there are no differences. Since any splash potion takes on the effects of the potion that served as a base during brewing. Thus, a splash potion of weakness + will last 4 minutes, but it can be thrown. A regular potion can also be thrown, but it will last the standard – 1:30 minutes. To create this type of potion, you will need the following ingredients:
- Gunpowder (can be obtained from creepers, ghasts, witches or through trading).
- Any potion of weakness (either the regular or enhanced version will do).
And once all the main ingredients are ready and the basic items are prepared, you can start cooking. For ease of understanding, we suggest that beginners follow the following instructions:
- You install the cooking stand and then open it.
- Fire Powder – must be placed in the upper left slot.
- Gunpowder – must be placed in the central top slot.
- Any potion of weakness – must be received in the central lower slot (opposite the upper one).
How to get a weakness potion?
The easiest way to get any desired weakness potion in Minecraft is to use console commands. You can try to get potions in the game, but the chances of getting them are small, and if we are talking about something specific, then it is generally unclear what the character should do. Therefore, we recommend using the console. To do this, simply open the chat line (after pressing “T” on the English keyboard layout), and then enter one of the following commands:
- You can get a regular weakness potion using the command – “/give @p minecraft:potion{Potion:”weakness”}” .
- You can get an enhanced weakness potion using the command – “/give @p minecraft:potion{Potion:”long_weakness”}” .
- You can get a regular splash potion of weakness with the command – “/give @p minecraft:splash_potion{Potion:”weakness”}” .
- You can get an enhanced splash potion of weakness with the command – “/give @p minecraft:splash_potion{Potion:”long_weakness”}” .
In addition, there are several more important points, and there are three of them. First, all commands should be entered without using quotes. Second, after each command, you can put a “Space” and specify the required number of potions to receive. Third, sometimes commands do not fit in the line, and if this happens, then you should use a command block. In the latter case, the selected command is written inside this block. And then it will be activated automatically as soon as the command block can receive a signal from the redstone.
Secrets and tips
- The Potion of Weakness is considered unique because it is the only primary potion that has its own special effect.
- Additionally, the Weakness Potion is also the only potion that does not require Nether Wart Seeds . The same goes for the Greater Weakness Potion.
In general, the weakness potion is an extremely useful potion for battles. However, if you decide to use them, then it is better to immediately try to brew explosive versions of this potion. Since this way the character will be able to fight much more effectively and safely. And it is much easier to deal with enemies this way. In addition, it will be extremely useful to use the weakness potion against other players if you have to play on public servers.
