The quest of the dragon knight Igon will not only allow you to delve deeper into the history of the cult of the dragon communion, but will also lead you to one of the most spectacular battles in the game. In addition, you will be able to gain the ability to take on a dragon form, and our guide will help you with this.
Egon is a hapless dragon knight and marauder exploring the Shadowlands in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. His quest line takes place outside of the main events of the expansion and offers a small adventure within the story of the Dragon Communion cult. During the events of Egon’s quest, you will also meet the Dragon Communion priestess Florissax. Your decisions will determine what rewards you receive after completing her quest line, so read this guide to the end to learn about the alternate ending and all the rewards.
First meeting. A halt by the road with columns
The first meeting with Igon takes place near the place of grace “Rest by the road with columns”, just above the place where you could meet Tiolier.
As with Tiollier, cross the Great Bridge and head to the “Forefront of the Castle” grace. Just before the grace, turn right and follow the path until it forks. Take the right path and continue forward, soon you will hear painful cries and moans.
The source of the noise is our hero today – the broken dragon knight Egon. The dragon slayer managed to meet a certain Bale the Terrible and curses him with his last strength. Apparently, after meeting Bale the Terrible, Egon barely managed to escape with his legs, and even those were not complete. Now his heart is filled with the desire to take revenge on the offender, but he is no longer able to do this on his own.
From the meeting place with Egon, move further along the path decorated with busts depicting dragons. Soon, a red phantom, the Ancient Dragon Man, will invade your world. The battle with him will not be difficult, but you will not get any loot. However, beware of the feathered opponents located nearby – they can complicate the battle. After victory, continue to follow the designated route. At the end of the path of pedestals with dragons, you will find yourself in front of the entrance to the dungeon “Dragon Pit”.
The Dragon Pit and the Ancient Dragon Man
Explore the cave, gradually descending lower and lower. Here you will encounter skeletons of beastmen from Farum-Azula, which resurrect if you do not finish them off again, as well as a magma serpent. As soon as you reach the cliff opposite the altar lit by candles – jump down. This is completely safe and will lead you to a battle with the main boss of the dungeon.
Your opponent will once again be the Ancient Dragon Man, who previously invaded in the form of a red phantom, but this time the battle will be a little more difficult. For defeating him, you will receive the weapon “Great Katana of the Dragon Hunter” – this is a powerful two-handed katana that deals increased damage to dragons and can help you in further battles. Now open the dark green gate opposite the entrance to the arena with the boss and go straight to the grace “Last Rest in the Dragon Pit”.
As you exit the cave, stick to the right side of the rock formations. You’ll soon notice a white glow on the rise. This is a message from Egon, filled with anger towards Bale the Terrible.
Go down and now you have to defeat the Dragon of the Toothed Mountain. This is a normal dragon that does not have any special attacks, but killing it is necessary for further progress in the quest. Don’t forget about the Flow – its double jump and maneuverability will allow you to easily dodge most attacks.
Great Altar of the Dragon Communion
After defeating him, stand in the center of the arena and turn your back to the “Last Rest in the Dragon Pit”. To your right, there will be a descent into the ravine – head there. Move forward and soon you will see the skeleton of a huge dragon. This path will lead you to the “Great Altar of Dragon Communion”.
Next to the altar is the priestess of the dragon communion, Florissax. She is a servant of the Dragon Lord Placidussax, whose task is to spread the word of the dragon communion throughout the world.
Talk to her. She will tempt you with the opportunity to absorb the essence of the dragon from the heart of the most ancient and vile representative of the ancient dragons – Bale the Terrible. The priestess will ask you to find and kill this traitor to the line.
As a help, Florissax will offer “Blessing of the Ancient Dragon”. It increases all types of resistance and will be a good help in the upcoming battle, but it is used only once. To receive the blessing again, you will have to return to the priestess each time.
You can also get additional information about Bale the Terrible from her: many centuries ago, he committed treason – he raised a rebellion against the lord of all dragons, Placidussax. However, he only managed to wound the lord, and Bale fled in disgrace. Since then, he is considered a traitor to the family, and for all followers of the ancient dragons, Bale the Terrible is a sworn enemy, and the flesh of his descendants has long been used to carry out the rites of dragon communion.
Open the map
If you haven’t visited the Côte d’Azur yet and don’t have the map of the region open, let’s go find it. If you already have the map of the region open, move on to the next point.
From the “Great Altar of Dragon Communion”, follow the skeleton of a giant dragon and descend below to a clearing strewn with red spider lily flowers (lycoris). Jump along the path between the flowers and soon you will come to the “Secret Tomb of Haro”. Moving along the water, you will meet an old acquaintance from the original campaign – the boatman Tibia. For defeating him, you can get a recipe book with the summoning of the undead.
As soon as the river starts to go to the right, turn towards the south on your in-game compass (symbol S) and carefully jump down. Follow strictly south and soon you will see an obelisk on which a fragment of the map of the region will be located. The exact location is marked in the screenshot below.
The foot of the toothy mountain and the second meeting with Egon
Now return to the “Last Rest in the Dragon Pit” grace and go to the place where you fought the dragon. On the left hand side there will be a passage in a stone arch that will lead you to an air stream. Climb higher and cross the wooden bridge to get to the “Foot of the Toothed Mountain” grace.
Follow the edge of the mountain range straight ahead and you’ll soon reach the next arena. This time, you’ll be met by two Tooth Mountain Dragons. Defeating them is necessary to progress through the quest, but there’s no need to kill both of them yourself – they’ll fight each other, so just wait for one to defeat the other and then finish off the winner.
At that moment, the gorge will be illuminated by the deafening hysterical laughter of Egon, jubilant after your victory. He will recognize you as a dragon knight and will burst into another portion of thunderous laughter. Going further, you will find Egon lying on the floor in front of the entrance to the next gorge. Despite the bloody mess instead of limbs, Egon managed to get closer to the lair of Bale the Terrible again, but his strength is running out.
He will ask you to fulfill his last wish – to take revenge on the terrible ancient dragon. According to him, Egon’s soul is still on Tooth Mountain. With these words, he will give you his crooked finger so that you can call him to the decisive battle.
Slope of the toothy mountain
After finishing the conversation, move deeper into the gorge and rise higher using two air currents, then follow the narrow passage to the southeast. Soon two huge boulders will roll towards you – the nearby rocks will serve as reliable cover.
In the next arena, you will encounter the Ancient Dragon Senessax. Unlike the previous dragons, Senessax is a very powerful opponent. For tips on killing him, read our guide to killing key and optional bosses in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
What’s interesting is that you don’t have to kill him to advance the quest – you can just run past to the next destination. However, for defeating him, you can get two dragon stones at once: one for upgrading a standard weapon by +25 and a stone of darkness for sharpening a special weapon by +10.
Regardless of the outcome, move on, keeping to the left side of the gorge, then climb up the mountain through a tunnel littered with dragon corpses. Eventually, you’ll find yourself in front of the “Tooth Mountain Slope” place of grace.
Bale the Terrible at the Top of Toothed Mountain
Continue along the left side of the mountain and ride the next two air currents up. Be careful, the road is not very friendly to the careless. Eventually, you will find yourself in front of a new cave with dragon corpses. Walk forward a bit and take the path on the left that goes up. It will lead to the last air current, which will take you to the “Tooth Mountain Summit”.
One of the most spectacular battles in the game awaits you. Don’t forget to summon the dragon knight Egon – his summoning sign is located near the entrance to the arena with the boss. The most attentive will notice that the wounds on the bodies of Bale and Egon are very similar, but the reasons for this are not revealed in the description of the items or in the dialogues. For defeating Bale the Terrible, you will receive “Bale’s Heart”, and our guide will help with the battle tactics .
The final and first form of the dragon
Now return to the grace of “Foot of the Toothed Mountain” to the place of the last meeting with Egon. The hapless dragon knight has given up the ghost, leaving behind a set of armor and “Great Bow of Egon”, which will make you feel like a dragonborn from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Also at the place of death there will be “Orb of Egon” – it should be given to the old women in the Fortress of the Round Table. This way you will be able to buy arrows for this bow.
Next, head to the Great Altar of Dragon Communion. Here, you can perform communion with Bale’s Heart to learn one of two dragon prayers: Bale’s Malice or Bale’s Firebolt.
In the place where the priestess used to be, you will find the “Heart of the Priestess” and the weapon “Stone Flower Hammer” – the hammer has increased damage to dragons, and its skill is capable of both inflicting damage and reducing the resistance to lightning in enemies.
The most interesting one is the “Heart of the Priestess”. It allows you to take the female form of a dragonborn. To do this, remove all clothes from the character and use the heart. In this form, all types of damage resistance are increased, and when used again, the power of the dragon cult prayers increases by 20% for 60 seconds. The number of uses of the heart is unlimited, but the effect wears off after the character dies.
There is also an alternative ending to this quest that will lead you to other rewards. In this case, we will not get the female form of the dragon, so I will tell you more about how to get the male one.
Alternative ending

Briefly: you need to talk to Tioli at the grace “Cross by the road with columns” at the beginning of the game. Then talk to the merchant Mur at the grace “Cross by the main gate” and take the “black molasses”. Then return to Tioli and say that you are tired of life.
Once you’ve met all the requirements and spoken to Egon for the last time, taking his crooked finger, head to the “Great Altar of the Dragon Communion”. Rest on the grace, rewinding time to night, then speak to the priestess of the Dragon Communion. You will have the option to “use a sleeping potion”. Use “Tiolier’s Potion” on the priestess and reload the location/rest on the grace.
Talk to the priestess again. She will lament that she broke her vow and let her master down. It seems she can’t sleep. After a series of apologies, she will leave her post, leaving you with the protective prayer “Dragon Lightning Florissax” as a reward, and the priestess herself will become your summonable spirit “Ancient Dragoness Florissax”.
Now after killing Bale the Terrible you will not receive either the Flower Hammer or the “Heart of the Priestess”. So let’s go get the male dragon form.
Male form of dragon
To obtain the male form of the dragon, you need to solve the riddle from the painting, which is located in the Haven of Shadows.
First, head to the Vault, First Floor Grace Place in the Shadow Haven and take the lift that brought you to the vault. You’ll find yourself in front of a staircase guarded by a Messmer soldier. After walking a bit forward, you’ll find yourself at a crossroads – turn left and walk a bit further forward. You’ll see a wooden staircase on the left. Go down it and go to the right, carefully stepping along the wall so as not to accidentally fall into the water.
Once you reach the first “waterfall”, go through it and you will find yourself in front of the next wooden staircase. After going down, you will find an easel with a painting depicting a place near the “Slope of the Toothed Mountain”.
Jump onto this grace and ride the same route that once brought you to Bale the Terrible’s sanctuary. After overcoming the first air current, go forward a little and look to the right. You will notice a ledge from which you can carefully jump down. Do so and turn right.
A ghostly artist will appear in front of you for a moment, painting a picture. After it disappears, the “Stone Heart” will lie in the same place, which grants the male form of a dragon. The principle of its use is similar to the “Heart of the Priestess”, the difference is only in the appearance.
Thus, we have completed the quests of Egon and the Priestess of the Dragon Communion Florissax, and also received two dragon forms in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
