How to Beat Mog the Bloodlord Boss in Elden Ring

Learn how to beat Mog the Bloodlord boss in Elden Ring with these valuable tips and strategies. Master the battle and conquer this formidable foe!

Mog the Bloodlord is one of the six Demigods in the fantasy world of Elden Ring. He can become a powerful opponent for the player or remain completely ignored, but the second option is not even considered. This guide is dedicated exclusively to defeating the boss, which is an important condition for accessing the story expansion Shadow of the Erdtree.

The main boss of the River Siofra location, Mog the Bloodlord, is optional. You don’t even need to look for him if your goal is to complete the main story of Elden Ring. However, if you are trying to defeat all the formidable opponents in the game and end up in the new location that will be added in the story DLC, you won’t be able to avoid meeting him. Below we will tell you how to quickly get to the arena with the boss and share effective tactics for fighting Mog, who likes to use bleeding.

How to find the boss Mog the Blood Lord

Since this is an optional boss, you won’t be able to reach him by following the main route that takes you to the capital. Mog the Bloodlord resides in his own palace in the Siofra River location, but getting there isn’t that easy. There are only two ways to get close to the boss’s location: completing White-Faced Varre’s errands or using the portal to the Giant’s Peaks.

The fastest way is to complete Varre’s quests, which can be started immediately after defeating Godric the Hundred-Handed. Activate the Great Dectus Lift and complete all of the character’s requests, including invading other players and finding the handmaiden’s blood. After handing over the Bloody Medal, Varre will allow you to swear allegiance to Mog the Lightbringer and reward you with the Pureblood Knight Medal. This item will allow you to teleport to Mogwin Palace.

Using the medal, move to a new location and you will find yourself near the “Entrance to the Dynasty Mausoleum”. To the north of the place of grace, you will see a path strewn with albinors – the main source of rune farming in this area, each of which brings about 2400 runes with a Golden Ring. This piece of land allows you to quickly earn up to 40 thousand runes. With the place of grace nearby, you can easily and quickly collect the necessary stock.

To reach Mog the Bloodlord, mount your horse and ride north, avoiding the albinors, across open ground. Continue north and then west. You’re on the right path if giant skeletal spirits appear along the way. Eventually, you’ll see a tall stone arch. Climb the stairs and you’ll find yourself in a dynasty mausoleum, and to the left of it, at the top of the stairs, is a new place of grace. From here, continue straight until you reach a large rock entrance.

After passing the entrance to the rock, things will get a little more difficult: between you and the next place of grace, there are two Blood Nobles. You can fight them if you are confident in your victory, or run past them if you do not have a lot of runes that would be a pity to lose. On the ground, you will see stone slabs of an old road, follow them and pay attention to the stairs. Another formidable enemy will appear here, so it is better not to stop. Follow the faded road and the stairs, and eventually you will see a door outside. You will know that you are on the right path if you see a bright white Ghost Glove.

As you exit the door, you will see the Dynasty Mausoleum Center Grace Place right in front of you, activate the save point and prepare for the boss fight. It’s not far to Mog – to get to him, you just need to climb the stairs and follow the path to the right. You will find yourself on a platform that will take you straight to the boss arena.

How to Beat Mog the Bloodlord Boss in Elden Ring

Mog is a very strong boss in Elden Ring. It is especially difficult to defeat him for low-level players with low health and fewer items that provide resistance to bleeding. However, it is still possible to kill this enemy with simple tactics – trial and error. But it will be much more effective to at least minimally prepare for the battle with him.

The following items will be useful to you in the fight with Mog the Blood Lord:

  • Bleeding Resistance : Use Bleeding Resistance Pills to increase your resistance. You can craft them yourself or buy them from merchants and twin maids.
  • Cleansing Crystal Tear : Removes the Blood Lord’s curse and reduces damage taken during boss phase transitions. Obtained as a reward for killing Eleanor, the Purple Bloody Finger in Marika’s Second Temple.
  • Mog’s Shackles : Allows you to stun Mog several times in the first phase, making him vulnerable to your attacks. This item can be obtained in the Dungeon of Alienation, under the large room with pipes, before the entrance to the Catacombs of Leindell.

Tactics for defeating the boss

To make the fight with Mog easier, make sure you have all the items listed above. In the boss arena, you will have enough time to use pills and summon any ashes. In the case of the enemy, Ashes of the False Tear works best. Other players can also help you, so do not refuse the summon function if you are having trouble beating Mog.

There are several effective tactics against this boss. The safest and most effective is to use a magic build and the spell Azura’s Comet, which allows you to deal massive damage from a distance. However, if this is not possible, Mog is, ironically, weak to bleed damage. Therefore, any build that uses weapons or abilities that cause bleed will quickly reduce his health. Killing Eleanor, the Purple Bloodfinger will not only give you the Cleansing Crystal Tear, but also Eleanor’s Blade, which causes bleeding on attacks. There are many other items besides blood-related weapons, spells, and abilities, so check what you already have before going in search of something specific.

Mog the Bloodlord is generally weak to physical attacks and some others like Frost and Poison, so you have plenty of options to deal extra damage. Just avoid Fire or Crimson Rot damage as the boss has high resistance to them.

The first phase of the boss fight involves avoiding the slow swings of Mog’s trident. If you’re fast, you can dodge them and land hits in between, but with a slower, heavier weapon you’ll have to wait for longer periods of time between combos. You’ll also need to watch out for the blood fire attacks – either stabbing claw attacks or fire pools on the floor. Both will cause bleeding. Early on, he’ll also cast his blood curses, which appear as rings around the player, but they can be countered with a cleansing crystal tear.

At around half health, the second phase begins, where Mog adds bloody flame sprays to many of his attacks and begins to attack while flying. You should remain mobile throughout the fight, especially after he takes to the air. Since his attacks cover a large area, try not to dodge them, but simply run over them.
