How to add Google Gemini to the iPhone home screen

Although Google Gemini has been available for a few months now, accessing the Google chatbot is still a bit complicated, as it is just a couple of clicks away in the Google app . However, with the Shortcuts app , we can get access to it from the iPhone’s home screen or the Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro series.

Currently, there is no Gemini app for iOS, but there is one for Android . iOS users have to use the Google app to enjoy Gemini, unless they are using it from Safari. While this is not a huge drawback, heavy users may need quicker access.

Luckily, thanks to Matt Sephton , developer of the Playdate console, we have a new system to be able to access Gemini from the iPhone home screen or the Action Button . He has found the link that takes you directly to Gemini, allowing you to access the chatbot with a single click.

How to add Google Gemini to the iPhone home screen

To have a shortcut to Google Gemini on the iPhone home screen, we will have to use the Shortcuts app so that the shortcut we create works as if it were an application on our Springboard. To do this, follow these steps:

  • We open the Shortcuts app.
  • We create a new shortcut.
  • In the search engine, we search for “Open URLs”.
  • In the text field, we paste the following address: “googleapp://robin”.

In the shortcut options, we change the name to Gemini , look for the option to add it to the home screen and assign it a photo , like this one , which is the icon of the Gemini app for Android, so that it looks much more realistic. The Shortcuts app also has an icon of some blue stars that look a lot like Gemini.

Since the specific link for the Google app has been found in the Gemini section, running the shortcut will open that specific section of the app so that access is direct . Finally, if you want to go a step further, you could put this shortcut on the Action Button of your iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max from the settings, selecting the shortcut option and choosing said shortcut.
