How to activate the “Halloween mode” in WhatsApp and Telegram

Tomorrow is Monday October 31, or what is the same, Halloween. If you want to give your messaging app a “terrifying” touch this Halloween, here are a few customization elements that can be quite cool.

To activate the “Halloween mode” in WhatsApp or Telegram (we put it that way in quotes because obviously none of these platforms have such a configuration option) we are going to make some changes to our profile image, name, biography, stickers and wallpaper that They will give you a most appropriate look for these dates.

Step 1: “Zombify” your profile picture

The first thing we will do is change our profile picture to a zombie version of ourselves . You can find several “zombification” tools on the Internet, although the one I like the most is Make Me a Zombie . It works from the browser and is very easy to use.

Once we have downloaded the image, we will apply it to our WhatsApp or Telegram profile.

Step 2: Decorate your username with ASCII emoticons

The next step will be to add an ASCII text emoticon to our username in the messaging app. To give it a Halloween touch we can use one of these “terrifying” ASCII emojis .

Murcielago /|\ ^._.^ /|\
Creepy ԅ(≖‿≖ԅ)
Creepy cute ƪ
Evil ψ(`∇´)ψ
Confused  (⊙_☉)
Ghost ༼ one ❍_❍ ༽
Tearful D_D
Loco ¯\(°_o)/¯
Monster t(ಠ益ಠt)
Zombies [¬º-°]¬

To use them, we just have to select the emoji by long pressing and giving the copy option. Then, we go to the WhatsApp settings, click on our profile and edit the name. That’s where we’ll do another long press to paste the text emoji, and voila.

In Telegram, for example, the process would be the same. We display the side options menu, click on our profile image, then we tap on the 3-dot button that we will see in the upper right area and select “Edit name”.

Step 3: Add a sinister phrase to your profile info

Continuing with the customization for this Night of the Dead, nothing better than adding a good Halloween phrase that generates the occasional shiver to our most fearful contacts. Here are a few examples to add to your Telegram/WhatsApp biography or profile information:

  • When there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth. (The dawn of the Dead)
  • Whatever you do, don’t fall asleep. (Nightmare in Elm street)
  • Today it is allowed to be a little ghost
  • What an excellent day for an exorcism! (The Exorcist)
  • Between ghosts, pumpkins and spells, get ready for a night of many screams
  • I’m afraid to close my eyes. I am afraid to open them. (The Blair Witch Project)
  • Bite me and make me yours.
  • Have you ever felt those stinging things on the back of your neck? They are… (The sixth sense)

Step 4: Activate dark mode

If you normally use the standard WhatsApp theme, maybe this is a good time to activate the dark mode . Go to the dark side as Darth Vader says and enable the chats, settings and other interface menus to be displayed with a black background.

  • In WhatsApp activate the dark mode from “ Settings -> Chats -> Theme”.
  • From Telegram you can activate the dark mode by clicking on your profile image. Then go to “ Chats -> Switch to night mode”.

Step 5: Use a Halloween-appropriate wallpaper

Almost there. What would Halloween be without a good matching wallpaper? You can find plenty of free scary wallpapers to download on sites like Unsplash . You can also take a look at the post “ The 10 best websites to download wallpapers ”.

To change the wallpaper in WhatsApp go to “ Settings -> Chats -> Wallpaper -> Change ”.

You can change the wallpaper on Telegram by displaying the side menu on the left and clicking on your profile image. Then go to “ Chats -> Change chat background ”.

Step 6: Download a few ghost, skull and pumpkin stickers

To finish customizing the “Halloween mode” of our WhatsApp we can add a few stickers to the equation. Here are some of the most popular free sticker packs on the Play Store:

If you have Telegram, this section can give you much more play thanks to the animated stickers and the higher quality in general that we can find in its stickers. Enter the Telegram settings and look for the animated stickers of “Shpooky”, “Skull” or “Halloween Pumpkin”, among others. There is quite a lot of good material!
