Meta’s chatbot for WhatsApp is now available in the United States and several Latin American countries. Here’s how to use it.By now you’ve probably seen a lot of news stories announcing that Meta’s generative AI can now be used in WhatsApp. And well, they’re not wrong, but the reality is that its use is still far from being available to everyone .
These types of text chatbots are first developed in English, and therefore, they are usually launched first in English-speaking countries such as the United States, Australia or the United Kingdom, and months later they are extended to the rest of the international regions if everything has gone well.
That’s precisely what happened back in the day with ChatGPT and Google Gemini, or more recently with Claude AI , and it’s exactly the same thing that’s happening right now with Meta’s AI for WhatsApp powered by the Llama 3.1 model.
If you live in the United States or Latin America, you can now use Meta’s AI on WhatsApp
Until exactly a week ago, Meta’s AI was only available in a few countries such as the United States, although in a recent statement the company has announced that it can now be used in several regions of Latin America such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru , as well as in the African country of Cameroon. In other countries such as Spain, Meta’s AI is still not available.
In any case, if you live in one of the lucky countries, you can activate Meta’s AI and chat with her by simply following these steps:
- Tap the Meta AI icon in the “ Chats ” tab. Note: the icon appears in the bottom right area, just above the button to open a new chat.
- If this is the first time you click the button, you will see a message asking you to accept the terms of use of the service . Accept the conditions to continue.
- Done! Now you just have to write your question or prompt to interact with the AI.
At the moment, Meta’s AI can only generate content in text format, although Meta has also announced that we will be able to use the “Imagine” function to generate images using Artificial Intelligence. This new feature has been available in the United States since last week, although it is still in the testing phase.
