How to activate “Background Sounds” on iOS 15

Do you want to stay focused and avoid distractions? A new feature in iOS 15 can help you, here’s how.

In iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, one of the new accessibility features introduced by Apple is Background Sounds, designed to help the user stay focused, stay calm and minimize distractions with the help of an iPhone or iPad.

The background sounds available include pink noise, white and brown, as well as natural sounds like ocean, rain and brook. All sounds can be set to play in the background to decrease unwanted ambient or external noise, and blend or quieten in the presence of other audio and system sounds.

Here’s how to enable background sounds on iOS 15 and iPadOS 15:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Select Accessibility
  3. Tap Audiovisual Content
  4. Turn on Background Sounds
  5. Select a sound effect from those available

Your device will need to download individual sound effects when they are first played, so make sure you have an internet connection. Subsequently, the sounds can also be played offline.
