How to Activate Anti-Theft Mode on Samsung Galaxy devices

Learn how to activate the anti-theft mode on Samsung Galaxy devices to protect your device from theft and unauthorized access. Follow our step-by-step guide for added security.

One of the most important new features that Google introduced for Android this year is a new feature that can detect if your mobile has been stolen . However, this feature will not only be available for the new Android 15 , but many users of mobile devices with the green android operating system will be able to enjoy this protection.

This is the case of the Samsung Galaxy . The South Korean company’s mobile devices have already received this new security feature, following the latest One UI update . Many devices already have this feature, we tell you everything you need to know about this new security measure for your smartphone.

How does theft detection lock work, and how to activate it on Samsung Galaxy

The new Theft Detection Lock is a feature that uses the device’s motion sensors, as well as its connectivity systems, to detect if someone has taken your phone abruptly and suddenly. For example, if a thief has snatched your phone from your hands while you were using it.

While Samsung Galaxy phones have security measures to prevent thieves from accessing your device, such as biometric locking (either through fingerprint or facial recognition), these measures are of little use if your phone has been stolen while you were using it and the device was unlocked. What the new Theft Detection Lock does is protect your device in these cases.

When a theft is detected, the smartphone will lock its screen and it will be necessary to use the fingerprint or PIN to access the device, so our files and all the sensitive content we store on our phones will be protected: thieves will not be able to access our information or our apps, such as WhatsApp.

To activate the new theft detection lock, follow these steps :

  • We go to the System Settings menu and access the Security and Privacy section
  • Next we access ‘ More security settings ‘
  • Then we select ‘ Theft protection ‘

In this menu, it is advisable to activate both options: ‘Lock on theft detection’ and ‘Lock device offline’ . In addition to the lock on theft detection, the second option adds another security measure: it will lock the device screen after a short time if it detects that it has been disconnected (for example, if airplane mode has been activated).

These new security measures are already available on Samsung Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1 and One UI 6.1.1 operating system versions. The tool does not appear immediately after updating. For example, I received the update to One UI 6.1.1 several weeks ago, but this new feature was recently activated almost by surprise.
