How to activate and deactivate the voicemail of any operator

Operators offer us a series of extra services that allow us to add functions and tools to our rate. One of these services that are included in almost all contracts is that of the voice mail or answering machine. Today we explain everything you need to know about voicemail or how to activate, deactivate or manage it in the different mobile operators.

What is it? What is it for? When is it activated? We solve all the common questions that may arise around this tool or service.

What is voicemail

If someone calls us and cannot contact us, they usually send us a WhatsApp if we trust it and if they have to leave us saying something even if we haven’t picked it up. Be our mother, partner or our best friend. But not always. There are users who bet on voicemail. You leave a message on your voicemail explaining why you called and why when that person has not picked up the phone. It is about a few seconds in which the caller has the possibility to leave us a message that we can listen to later, when we are available.

Although we will see it in the next few paragraphs, voicemail is available in practically almost all operators (not all, O2 does not have it, for example) both on mobile lines and fixed lines . It allows us to enable those seconds for someone to leave us the message in case we are busy, we do not take it, etc.

And the answering machine?

You may hear answering machine and voicemail spoken in different terms, what is the difference between the two? None. The answering machine has been commonly used as a term applied to the fixed telephone and the voicemail is usually related to the mobile section but I love

It costs money?

Generally not. The vast majority of operators include voicemail as a free service in both the mobile version and the answering machine version for the landline phone. It is included in the rate and has no extra cost. In addition, there is no cost to the person who is calling you and leaving you a message.

Is it enabled by default?

In most cases, the voicemail is activated by default in the operator and we can deactivate it if we do not want someone to use it to leave us messages. It has no cost but we may not be interested in having audios left in it.

Options and settings

There are a number of settings that we can choose in the voicemail or answering machine.

How do they notify me of a new message

Many operators (not all) allow us to configure an alert when we have a message in the voice mailbox. You may completely forget about this service and never listen to what is stored in it, so operators have the possibility of enabling an SMS that you will receive on your mobile if you have any new notification in this mailbox.

When it jumps

Although it depends on the operator itself, we generally find the possibility to choose when the voicemail jumps on our mobile line. We do not simply choose to jump or not jump if we do not answer the phone, but they allow us to decide precisely :

  • For all the calls we don’t answer
  • When it’s off or out of coverage
  • When we are on another call
  • When I don’t answer in X seconds

Other options

There are other options that some specific operators allow, such as Vodafone with Answering Plus. Answering Machine Plus allows you to convert voice messages into text that arrive by SMS so that you forget to listen to your voicemail. They transcribe it so that you automatically get what someone else said. They can fit up to three SMS. If there are more, you will have no choice but to go to the mailbox to hear it in full. Of course, this has an extra cost of 1.20 euros per month .

How do I listen to calls

Most operators have a number that we can call to listen to the messages we have in our voicemail. We do not need a specific app or any type of specific program but we only access the phone app and dial a code followed by the green call button. We can automatically access the voicemail management from where we can change the language, choose the greeting or listen to our messages . Almost all operators also have the possibility of listening to messages by calling from another phone, even if it is not from that company, and giving a code or password that allows us to access the voice mailbox. Something especially useful if you are going to access from abroad or if you want to check the messages on your phone remotely.

Differences with call forwarding

The difference between voicemail and call forwarding may confuse someone It is easy to know which one is or the other: call forwarding makes the call we receive on our phone ring on another mobile phone and we can pick up the hook. If, for example, you are not at home or in the office and you divert it to another mobile. The answering machine does not divert that call and you receive it from another number, but rather allows a few seconds for that person to tell you what they wanted or why the call was made. Currently we can simply send a WhatsApp and it is usually the most common but the mailbox continues to exist for the majority of users of all operators.

How to activate and deactivate

Most operating systems allow us to activate or deactivate the voicemail of the mobile phone or landline phone through a code that we dial on the smartphone itself or from the application or the operator’s customer area that allows us to activate or disable certain services. It will depend on the operator itself that we use that we have to follow some steps or others, that we use one code or another.

Amena voicemail

We can configure Amena’s voicemail from its website or its application or using specific codes with which to configure and customize the answering machine.

Telecable voicemail

Users of the Asturian operator can activate or deactivate the Telecable voice mailbox by following from the customer area or with codes-

Lowi’s voicemail

You can deactivate Lowi’s voicemail from “My line” in the customer application but also by dialing * 147 # to manage options.

Movistar voicemail

If you are a Movistar customer, you can configure the Movistar answering machine from the customer area on both mobile and landline.

DIGI voicemail

You can listen to messages from the same Digi phone or from another phone at no cost. It’s free, but you can disable Digi voicemail.

Virgin Voicemail

Virgin offers its customers an answering machine for landlines and mobiles and we can activate or deactivate it from the operator’s application.

Orange voicemail

You can activate or deactivate the Orange voice mailbox both on the landline and on the mobile phone from the web, by calling customer service or from the application where you will manage all the services included.
