How much does YouTube pay content creators?

The web offers many opportunities to earn money working online. One of the many options is to become a YouTuber. You can make money online with YouTube  in different ways using different features that the platform makes available to creators.

This guide is dedicated  to rates and calculations for video creators . In particular, I will include information on  how much YouTube pays  for views, advertising, and the number of subscribers.

What is CPM?

The main income of the platform comes from the advertisements that you can also exploit for your channel to earn money. Earnings from YouTube ads are calculated in CPM and stand for “cost per 1,000 impressions” (cost per 1,000  views).

In other words, CPM is the metric to calculate how much a YouTuber can earn if their video gets 1000 views . The CPM depends on the following factors:

  • How much is the brand willing to pay to have its advertising in your video;
  • Type of advertising;
  • Supply and demand of this type of advertising;
  • sponsorship consistency;
  • Posting period.

In addition to these factors, keep in mind that brands pay more per click if an ad is viewed internally. Also, they can decide to remove the “Skip after 5 seconds” button, but this option is more expensive.

Here is a  fairly simple example that will help you understand how much you can earn per CPM . If a brand pays €10 for an ad that is seen 5,000 times, to calculate the  CPM you must do the following calculation:

  • Divide €10 by 5,000 = 0.002;
  • Multiply the result by 1000 = €2.

This way you will know that you will earn €2 for every 1000 visits. To this figure we must subtract the  45% that corresponds to the  YouTube rate . So for every 1000 impressions you will earn around €0.90.

The value of the CPM is very variable : it starts from a low price of €1 per 1000 views up to €10.

What is CPC?

CPC is another metric to evaluate the effectiveness of advertising campaigns on your YouTube channel and it stands for Cost Per Click . In particular,  it measures the average cost required to get an ad click . As with the CMP, the value of CPC  also depends on several factors :

  • Campaign optimization;
  • The ad’s quality score;
  • Advertising extensions.

As with other feedback metrics, CPC, or ” cost per click ,” is measured as a ratio between two values. Since the cost of a single click can vary, the CPC value will be an average.

For example, if an ad receives three clicks respectively €0.50, €0.40 and €1, the total cost of the campaign is €1.90 (0.50+0.40+1). To calculate your cost per click, you’ll need to divide your total cost by the number of clicks. In this case 1.90:3 €=0.63 €.

Google AdSense for paid from Youtube

One of the ways to monetize videos is to link an AdSense account to the channel, through which you will get paid and can track your earnings. AdSense is responsible for placing ads on videos of various social platforms.

Advertisers can run their ads that will be paid based on impressions, clicks, or conversions. Linking an AdSense account to your YouTube channel can help you earn money when Google shows ads on your channel.

How to link your AdSense account to Youtube

If you haven’t linked your AdSense account to the YouTube channel yet, follow these steps:

  1. Access YouTube Studioand click on « Monetization » in the menu on the left;

Payment methods

There are  five ways to get paid through AdSense  that will generally start the payment process of your monthly earnings on the 21st of the following month:

  1. Check: Depending on your location, you may be able to receive payments by check. The platform cannot determine whether or not your bank can accept AdSense checks issued by Citibank. Before choosing this method , check with your bank if it can receive checks from Citibank . All checks arrive via standard shipping  and take  two to four weeks to arrive  in the mail. The sending of the payment will not have any cost and will take place within a period of  10-30 days from the date of issue ;
  2. Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT):This is a much faster payment method than checks. Your AdSense earnings will be credited to your bank account in your local currency. Check that this method is available in your country ;
  3. Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) EFT:This payment method is very similar to the previous one, but it involves YouTubers residing in Europe. Before selecting this mode, check that it is available in your country ;
  4. Bank transfer : You can receive payments directly to your bank account in your local currency or in US dollars.

In order to get paid, you will need to reach the minimum payment threshold of $100 . If you earn less in a month, you will get paid when you reach $100.

How much does YouTube pay per view?

On YouTube, earnings based on views vary from channel to channel . On average, most channels earn  $1.2 per 1000 views.  However, this figure ranges from $0.5 to $2 and depends on engagement, popularity of your profile and content, watch time, number of interactions and likes, and how many times the video is shared.

How much does YouTube pay per subscriber?

The platform starts paying for your content when you sign up for  the YouTube partner program . This means that your channel already has  1,000 subscribers  and has collected at least  4,000 hours of viewing in the last 365 days. Without meeting these requirements you will not be able to win as a YouTuber.

In general, the profiles with the most subscribers earn the most, but  the platform does not pay based on the number of subscribers . However, subscribers give access to  YouTube reward bonuses:

  • Grafite(up to 1000 subscribers) allows you to access the Academy and receive the Creator’s Monthly Newsletter;
  • Opal(up to 10,000 members) allows you to access specific Academy courses to increase the number of followers;

  • Silverand above (100,000 subscribers and more): You will receive the YouTube play button and have a dedicated YouTube partner manager.
