FIX: An error occurred while updating Counter-Strike

  • First, try selecting an alternate download region on Steam. To do this, right-click on the Steam system tray icon and select Settings .
  • Click Downloads on the left of the Settings window.
  • Then select an alternate region from the Download Region drop-down menu .
  • Press the OK button to close the window.
  • Restart Steam after changing the download region.
  1. Clear Steam Download Cache

Steam includes an option to empty the download cache that can fix download problems or games that won’t start. Therefore, this option may be useful to correct the error » An error occurred while updating Counter-Strike «. Users can select that option as follows.

  • Select Steam > Settings from the left menu of the Steam client.
  • Select Downloads in the Settings window.
  • Press the Clear download cache button
  • Click OK to confirm.
  • Then log back into Steam.
  1. Run Steam as Administrator
  • Granting admin rights to Steam has fixed Counter-Strike update bug for some players. To do this, right-click on Steam.exe inside the software folder and select Properties .
  • Select the Compatibility tab shown directly below.
  • Click the Run this program as administrator check box .
  • Select the Apply button .
  • Select the OK option .
  1. Disable Windows Firewall

Some Steam users have stated that disabling the Windows Defender Firewall has fixed the error » An error occurred while updating the Counter-Strike error » for them. Therefore, the error message is often due to the firewall blocking Steam. Users can disable the firewall in Windows 10 as follows.

  • Click the Type here to search button on the taskbar to open Cortana.
  • Enter firewall in the search box and select to open Windows Defender Firewall.
  • Click Turn Windows Defender Firewall On or Off to open the options shown directly below
  • Select the Disable Windows Defender Firewall options .
  • Click on the OK button .
  1. Disable third-party antivirus software

The error » An error occurred while updating Counter-Strike » error can also be due to third-party antivirus software, which include firewalls. Steam users have fixed the problem by uninstalling antivirus utilities.

At a minimum, some players may need to disable their antivirus software by right-clicking the icons in the Utilities system tray and selecting a disable or disable setting.

If that’s not enough, try to boot Windows cleanly. This will remove third-party antivirus utilities, and other programs, from the start. Follow the guidelines below to clean up Windows startup.

  • Open Run with Windows key + R hotkey.
  • Next, open the System Configuration window by entering msconfig in Run and clicking OK .
  • Select the Selective Start option button .
  • Clear the Load startup items check box .
  • 2. Select the Load system services and Use original boot configuration check boxes .
  • Click on the Services tab shown directly below.
  • Select the option Hide all Microsoft services first.
  • Next, click the Disable All button to clear all the checkboxes for third-party services.
  • Select the Apply option to confirm the new settings.
  • Then click OK to close the window.
  • Press the Restart button in the dialog window that opens.
  • Open Steam and launch Counter-Strike again. If the game updates and starts, you will likely need to get rid of the antivirus software.
  1. Delete the Appcache folder

Removing the appcache folder from Steam is another confirmed resolution for the error “Has yet to occur during the Counter-Strike error update “. To do this, close the Steam client software if it is open. Open File Explorer. Open the Steam folder, which will probably have this File Explorer path: C: Program Files Steam or C: Program Files (x86) Steam. Then select the appcache subfolder and press the Delete button to delete it.

Here are some of the resolutions that have fixed the » An error occurred while updating Counter-Strike » for some Steam users. For more resolutions, users can set up a steam support account to submit a support ticket.
