How can I avoid looking at my Lord as an enemy?

The fear of being thrown into hell because of the sins I have committed causes me to view my Lord as an enemy. What would you say to get rid of this spiritual illness?

Our dear brother,

There is a high probability that this feeling belongs to the devil, but the person may think it is from his heart. This is what the devil wants anyway.

The person repents and tries not to stay away from sins, no matter what. In addition, one should know that sin will not take a person out of religion and realize that he committed the sin of his own free will.

Sin does not take a believer out of religion. The door of repentance is open until the last breath.

We are living in the end times when sins attack people like floods. Not you, but a large part of the society, takes refuge in Allah because of committing sins. In fact, committing sins is not specific to our age; a feeling called “evil” that desires evil and enjoys sin has been placed in human nature . Man was created to do good and evil thanks to his soul.

While humans have positive emotions such as conscience and compassion , there are also emotions such as reason , anger and lust , which can be directed to the positive and cause many good deeds, but when directed to evil, they cause evil . Allah has placed these feelings in human nature for many good reasons.

There is no limit to the feelings of a person who is a candidate for eternal life and is sent to the world for a test. So that a person can earn his living with high and profound feelings, and at the same time set limits for himself against things that are harmful to society, his environment, and his two worlds, strengthen his will, and reach perfection.

Otherwise, there would be no difference between humans and animals, and peace and security would disappear in worldly life.

Since it is not always easy for a person to protect his will, laws have been introduced, prohibitions have been imposed, and punishments have been determined in order to ensure peace and security in the world and to help the development of humanity. For example , the state imposes high penalties on those who violate prohibitions such as theft, violation of traffic rules, failure to pay taxes, immoral behavior, etc. Or their parents may become angry or punish children who do not study, do not go to school, are disrespectful, or acquire harmful habits.

While the majority of humanity lives in peace and security due to these prohibitions, and a large portion of children grow up in safety and take healthy steps towards adulthood due to these prohibitions and punishments, those who do not comply with the prohibitions and are punished become angry with the police, the lawmakers, and their parents. .

However, what they need to do is not to get angry , but to control their own will, be aware of their responsibilities, and even thank their parents for protecting them from danger.

As can be seen, what is in question here is not the mercilessness of lawmakers or parents, but the irresponsibility of people who do not protect their will.

In fact, the child who knows this truth throws himself into her mother’s arms even though he is slapped by his mother for any crime he has committed. Because he knows that even if his mother punishes him at that moment, he is very merciful and compassionate. From infancy until death, he always shows his compassion, love and mercy and shows this in every behavior.

The mercy of Allah, who created us from nothing, raised us with the merciful hands of two people whom he endowed with compassion like parents, laid the world and all the blessings in it at our feet, and said “Repent and I will forgive” even when we sin or rebel against Him, is greater than His wrath. See what Almighty Allah, the possessor of infinite mercy, says?

“Say: O My servants who have sinned and harmed themselves! Don’t give up hope on God’s mercy! Because Allah forgives all sins. Surely, He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.” (Zumer, 39/53)

Such a God deserves love, not hostility.

Moreover, if our creator is Allah, then Allah knows best what is good and what is bad. The measure of good and evil, good and evil, is God’s command, the Prophet’s sunnah, the society’s perception of good or bad, and the “Conscience” in humans .

Look, your conscience is disturbed by the sins you have committed and you are afraid. Then, being punished for doing something bad is not cruelty, so that we can be hostile to Allah.

As far as we understand from your question, you are not hostile to Allah, our Creator, God forbid , but you are angry with a Allah whose attributes you do not fully know or whose attributes you misunderstand. Because the God we believe in does not oppress anyone , God forbid, and has absolute justice and infinite compassion.

Therefore, our duty is to first know Allah properly and surrender to Him with all His attributes and names. It is very important that the heart is satisfied with faith.

As a matter of fact, Abraham (as) asked Allah Almighty to satisfy his heart regarding his belief in the afterlife . (see Baqara, 2/260) When the heart is satisfied, a person commits fewer sins and gets rid of his doubts.

Apart from this, protecting our will means staying away from sins. When we sin, it means repenting by believing in God’s mercy.

Repentance is actually a person taking refuge in God again, having a heartfelt conversation with Him and feeling His presence in his soul.

Sometimes repentance after sins helps a person get closer to God.
