Location

This excellent neoclassical construction, built in 1881 by the Spanish merchant José García de la Noceda , at a cost of $90,000, located on Calle de Argüelles (Avenida 52) and D´Clouet (Calle 31).

Features

Corner brick building with a roof terrace, with two floors, a lookout tower in the center and topped by a simple dome. It has two well-differentiated levels: the first floor was used as a warehouse; the second was used as housing and offices, typical functional distribution of the 19th century. It is also known as Palacio Cacicedo. In this majestic building, its large premises stand out, its pavements, the work of mural paintings on walls and ceilings, its glassware with varied colors and designs, from the rectangular skylight with curved motifs to the semicircular arch, as well as iron work. Within urban constructions of a residential type, this warehouse-house is, according to Joaquín Weiss, “the best work of this kind in Cienfuegos… on a large scale, with simple and vigorous forms, comparable to the best works of its kind in the capital.” It represents the feeling of an era and the material response to its needs.

Category

Resolution #75 of January 30, 1990 granted it the category of Local Monument.
