Like Genshin Impact, Honaki: Star Rail has tests to see if you’re ready to level up the enemies you encounter as you stroll through the galaxy. Collectively, they are called Traces of Equilibrium, and they will come in several parts as you level up as a trailblazer.
These tests pushed my teams to the limit every time I challenged them. They also unlocked the systems needed to advance further in the game, such as Crimson Calyxes and Stgnant Shadows, so completing them was definitely worth my effort. Do you need help to defeat them? Here is a guide to all the balance challenges in Honkai: Star Rail.
All balance tests in Honkai Star Rail
Equilibrium Challenges unlock at Trailblaze levels 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 65. Quests will automatically start when you reach those levels. You won’t be able to level up as a trailblazer until you’ve completed every Equilibrium challenge. Work on this guide will continue as we solve each problem ourselves.
Honkai Star Rail – Trial of Balance Part One
The first Trial of Equilibrium opens around the same time you explore the Yarilo VI Underworld. You will find it on the lower level of the robot settlement. You will need to complete this challenge in order to raise your pioneer level above 20 and unlock the crimson cups. Since this is the first challenge in the game, we recommend a completely free character team:
- Natasha, Asta, Serval, Dan Heng
Don’t think that because this is the First Trial, it will be easy! Each fight will have polar opposite weaknesses, so make sure you manage your skill points well and only use DPS skills on a character who can exploit each boss’s weakness.

Honkai Star Rail – Trial of Balance Part Two
The second Trial, Equilibrium, will unlock around the same time you complete the Pathfinder mission on Yarilo VI. It unlocks trailblazing levels after 30, as well as the stagnant shadows you’ll need to ascend your characters. While you’ll be the father in the game, most free players will only have one five-star character for this battle, so again, we recommend a completely free character team:
- Natasha, March 7, Asta, the Fiery Pathfinder
This Trial will test your survivability a bit more, so we decided to use three support characters. March 7 and Fiery Pathfinder make a synergistic duo that works really well in one half of the challenge, with Natasha making sure you survive the second half.
Honkai Star Rail – Trial of Balance Part Three
The third Equilbrium challenge is unlocked when you reach Trailblaze level 40. For me, this happened after the completion of the current main story in version 1.0, and I started to get comfortable. Because I’ve spent so much time on my characters by this point, I think this was the easiest task for me. Here is the team we can recommend to every player:
- Fiery Pathfinder, Natasha, Dan Heng, Serval
By this point in the game, you will know how to control the flow of battle. I think what this tests the most is how well you have upgraded your characters. Be sure to focus on leveling up Four-Star Relics with the core stats your characters need the most. For example, Attack% for damage dealers and HP% for healers. If you’ve made it, you should be ready to go.
Honkai Star Rail – Trial of Balance Part Four
Trial of Equilibrium, Part Four is unlocked at Pathfinder Level 50. It took about two weeks and all my accumulated fuel to reach this point after passing the third test. If you don’t have five star characters that you think will do well here, here is a team we can recommend to every player:
- Fiery Pathfinder, Natasha, Dan Heng, Asta
By now you should know that the trick with these bosses is to have at least one attacker for each boss who can take advantage of their respective weaknesses. At this point in the game, I haven’t done relic grinding yet, and I don’t think it’s necessary to succeed at this stage. However, make sure you upgrade as many of your characters’ footprints as possible to ensure that their damage increases.
