Hearthstone Guide: “Dragon Priest” from Satellite

Introducing the Satellite Dragon Priest deck: a description of the archetype, tips for choosing a starting hand, and a game plan

The release of the “Kobolds and Catacombs” add-on is fixed in the Hearthstone metagame . There are a lot of decks that are showing great results. In this article we will tell you about the “Dragon Priest”, the creator of which has achieved high positions in the legend.

Dragon Priest is a very unusual archetype that first made its mark in the Black Mountain expansion, where the powerful synergy between dragons was first shown. The deck plays a huge number of creatures of the dragon race to get high benefits from their use. The Satellite build also got rid of cheap spells for synergy with a new card from Kobolds and Catacombs – Evil Summoner, which summons a creature worth the spell you show from your deck.

The deck proved to be excellent in ranked games. At the time of this writing, the deck’s author has reached # 2 in Legendary.

Starting hand

Choosing cards for your starting hand is the most important part of a deck’s gameplay. You need to pick up the cards in order to be able to provide decent resistance in the early stages of the fight, as well as to continue the pressure further.

The following cards will come in handy:

  • “Cleric of Northshire.” Great card for the early game. She will help block some of the opponent’s cards, since she has powerful characteristics for her cost, as well as the ability to draw cards when healed.
  • “Wonderful Dragon”. One of the most powerful early game creatures against classes that play a lot of spells. It at least has acceptable characteristics, passing the so-called “vanilla test”, and a good effect. Be sure to keep this creature in your hand.
  • Cabal Talon Priest. The creature is great on its own, but with the use of its battlecry to increase the health of your chosen creature, it’s incredibly powerful.
  • “Resin Guard”. Its low cost and stats with an effect that only works on the opponent’s turn make this card incredibly beneficial to use in the early game.
  • The Twilight Dragon. A creature that is best played in the middle of the game to get as many extra health points as possible. It should only be left for early synergy with other dragons.
  • Sunset Herald. A new expansion card “Kobolds and Catacombs”, which turns the game against aggressive decks, of which there are a lot of them in the ladder now.

Deck Play Style

“Dragon Priest” plays in the midrange style. When playing this deck, you need to play creatures every turn, since there are practically no spells in your deck. Try to use all available mana to fill your table, against which your opponent will have to take action. Dragons are very strong, they have powerful interactions with each other, and battle cries can turn the game in your favor. For example, Duskbringer can deal three points of damage to all creatures on its fourth turn, which can simply destroy most aggressive decks. In the later stages of the game, “Draconian Spies” appear on the table, thanks to which you can draw cards from your opponent’s deck, “Evil Summoners”, which can summon a powerful creature, and “Corridor Horrors”. As a finisher in the deck there are “Bone Mares”

Dragon Priest took on a new form in the Kobolds and Catacombs expansion: he got rid of cheap spells, leaving only important late cards to interact with Evil Summoner, added Duskbringer to his arsenal as an AoE effect, and powerful strong early creatures. The deck has become much more interesting and easier to play, and it also shows itself excellently in ranked games. It won’t take a lot of arcane dust to create it – try it and find out why it is so good! Still have questions? Ask in the comments, and we will try to answer
