Have you lost your iPhone, iPad, Mac or AirPods? Here’s how to find them in 3 steps

How uncomfortable it is to lose your iPhone, iPad or AirPods. Hundreds of euros, thousands of photos, and millions of sensitive information lost in a second: but fear not, there is the “Find my iPhone” tool. Let’s see together how to use it.

STEP 1: ENABLE THE TOOL
To activate the service you need to go to the Settings of the iPhone or iPad, click on your name at the top, choose iCloud, and activate the item “Find my iPhone”. The “Send last position” option can also be made operational, which allows you to send a geolocation signal before switching off. You need to make sure that the Apple ID you are using the device with is the primary one, used on your other Apple devices.

Make sure geolocation is enabled on the iPhone . How to do? Easy: Settings, Privacy, Location, and choose “Yes”.

STEP 2: HOW TO USE IT
«Find My iPhone» presents the list of your Apple devices , with the same ID, on a map . By clicking on one of these, its exact position will be shown, and it will be possible to activate the guided path to reach it. Pressing on Actions we can choose whether to make the device play a sound (loud and recognizable), activate the “Lost Mode”, or reset the smartphone (or block if it is a Mac).

STEP 3: CHOOSE THE SUITABLE ACTION
The first action is the most useful if we no longer find the iPhone at home, or in a closed place where we have recently been (a bar, hairdresser, etc.).

The second allows you to enter a password that will lock the device remotely: the first tool to use to prevent malicious people from accessing our sensitive data.

The last possibility, initialization, instead involves the instant reset of the device, erasing all data, including the Apple ID. In this way it will no longer be possible to find the device, so it is a bit like giving extreme unction to your iPhone, now irrecoverable and in barbaric hands.

WHAT ABOUT THE AIRPODS?
“Find my iPhone” also indicates the location of the AirPods, obviously if they have previously been paired with your smartphone. In this case, the instrument offers only two possibilities: the path to reach them, and the emission of a sound, which however is very low, since obviously it is emanating from the earphones, which could be inside the case.

FIND THE DEVICE WITH THE ICLOUD SERVICE, AND “IN THE FAMILY”
If you have only one Apple device, the only solution is to go to iCloud.com, log in with your ID, and access the “Find my iPhone” function . The web application is very similar to the mobile application.

With devices running the iOS 8 or higher operating system, you can also set up the “Family Sharing” service, to add other Apple IDs and thus be able to locate them from the “Find My iPhone” tool.
