Graphics settings in Gotham Knights;how to increase FPS

How to get a stable 60 FPS in the new co-op action in the Batman universe.Gotham Knights obviously didn’t have enough polish and it would be better if it was postponed for six months or a year. The game has an empty open world and not too diverse gameplay, and the graphics in many aspects look worse than in Batman: Arkham Knight . Textures look better, but dynamic objects like characters stand out sharply against the background of the ground, walls and other static.

However, Gotham Knights is now the newest game in the DC Universe. And if you are going to play it on a relatively weak PC, then check out our guide. In it, we will figure out how to adjust the graphics so that the picture remains (as far as possible) beautiful, and the FPS increases noticeably.

What kind of computer is needed for Gotham Knights (system requirements)

The game can parallelize calculations on 16 processor threads, using 12 of them as efficiently as possible. It also requires high frequency per core and high IPS (performance per clock). Therefore, for stable frame rates, we recommend an Intel Core i5 9th generation or later or Ryzen 5 3rd generation or later. In addition, for a comfortable game at maximum settings, even for the classic 1080p (1920×1080) resolution, a GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 590 video card is required.

As for the official system requirements, they are only for playing without ray tracing at 1080p (1920×1080) and 1440p (2560×1440) resolutions. We’ve reviewed independent Gotham Knights benchmarks and added recommendations for playing in 2K (2560×1440) and 4K (3840×2160) with ray tracing.

Minimum system requirements (1080p @ 60 FPS, high preset):

  • Operating system:Windows 10 (64-bit only!) / 11 x64.
  • Processor:Intel Core i5-9600K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600.
  • Video card:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti / AMD Radeon RX 590.
  • RAM:8 gigabytes.

Recommended system requirements (1440p @ 60 FPS, high preset):

  • Operating system:Windows 10 x64 / 11 x64.
  • Processor:Intel Core i7-10700K / AMD Ryzen 5 5600X.
  • Video Card:NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 / AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT.
  • RAM:16 gigabytes.

Graphics settings in Gotham Knights / how to increase FPS (frame rate) in the game

Comparing Gotham Knights to Batman: Arkham Knight

Next, we will analyze in detail all the graphic settings of Gotham Knights.

Testing was conducted on a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti graphics card in conjunction with a Core i5-10400F processor, the game was installed on an SSD.

  • Display Mode (screen mode). Select Borderless (full screen without border). Unfortunately, there is no full-fledged non-window Fullscreen mode (full screen) in the game.
  • Select Display. Here you need to select your main monitor.
  • Select GPU (select video card). You need the most powerful video card in the system. Do not confuse it with the integrated graphics core (Intel HD Graphics, Radeon Vega, etc.).
  • Resolution (resolution). Set the native resolution of your display (1920×1080 / 2560×1440 / 3840×2160 etc.).
  • VSYNC (vertical sync). It’s better to turn it off, since below there is an option to limit the frame rate, without input delay.
  • Dynamic Resolution (dynamic resolution). It’s also better not to turn it on, since below there is a much better alternative in the form of upscaling.
  • Max FPS Limit (max frame rate). Put 60 if you have a relatively powerful processor. Or 30, if very weak.
  • Upscaling Type (upscaling method). Both methods work well in game in terms of image quality, but DLSS is faster. However, it is only available on video cards of the GeForce RTX family. In this case, you can enable FSR 2.0 in quality mode (Quality in the next settings item).
  • Sharpening Level (sharpness). Set to 1 to make the upscaling image sharper.
  • Field of View (viewing angle). The standard value is 80. It is better to leave it. If lowered, the viewing angle will decrease and fewer enemies will be visible during fights. And if you increase it, performance will decrease, as more space and objects will be removed into the frame.
  • Ray Tracing (ray tracing). Ray tracing doesn’t do much in the game, only slightly corrects shading. This greatly degrades performance. Therefore, it is better to turn it off.
  • Motion blur (blur in motion). Motion smoothing is not implemented well in all games. Turn it off in Gotham Knights.
  • Ambient Occlusion (obstruction of ambient light). Adds diffuse shading that fills in various seams and recesses with additional shadows. With them, the picture looks more believable, but FPS can be reduced by 10-15%. In addition, there are few bright locations in the game where the work of Ambient Occlusion would be clearly visible. And during the fights, you will definitely not look at additional shadows. Therefore, you can turn it off.
  • Bloom (glow). Increasing the brightness of surfaces exposed to direct light. It does not really affect performance on modern video cards, but on older FPS it can noticeably decrease. Therefore, enable or disable, based on the relevance of your hardware.
  • Chromatic Aberration (camera effect). Makes the image look like it was shot on film by adding subtle green-red halos around objects. Looks good only on large TVs with at least 4K resolution. And on small Full HD monitors, it only makes the image dirty.
  • Depth of Field (depth of field). Background blur in cutscenes and in some other game moments. May slightly drop FPS during staged scenes if you have an outdated video card. Therefore, this effect can be turned off.
  • Texture Quality (texture quality). Responsible for the clarity and detail of the surfaces of all three-dimensional objects in the game. For maximum quality (Highest) requires 6 gigabytes of video memory. If your graphics adapter is smaller, then set it to high (High, for 4 GB) or medium (Medium, for 3 GB or less).
  • Shadows Quality (shadow quality). The resolution of the shadow maps, which are responsible for the density and softness of the edges of the shadows. Also, at a high quality setting, this option adds more shadows in the distance. It can be safely reduced to medium quality on most systems, which will free up 15-20% of performance, and the picture will still remain dark and gloomy, in which additional shadows are not always noticeable.
  • Effects Quality (quality of effects). The density and detail of special effects, like explosions or sparks. It is worth downgrading to medium quality or even low quality so that FPS sags less during battles.
  • Post Processing Quality (post-processing quality). Color correction and various filters. Without them, the picture may look less cinematic. In some strange way, high quality works better than medium. And on a low picture looks a little worse. Therefore, put high quality.
  • View Distance (visibility range). How far you can see buildings and other objects ahead. High quality can greatly degrade performance while riding a motorcycle. Therefore, it is recommended not above average.
  • Environment Density (environment density). Traffic density on the road. Recommendations are similar to the previous option.
