Last August we were able to see in great detail the new batch of motherboards from the Taiwanese giant. Our first impression was very positive and today, thanks to GIGABYTE Spain, we can finally share with you a complete review of the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E , a high-end motherboard that is cared for down to the millimeter, and that is aimed at demanding users who They want to enjoy the highest level of performance.

This motherboard has been, in fact, the one that we have used in our analysis of the Ryzen 9 7900X and Ryzen 5 7600X , and as we already told you at the time , the results were very positive , both for performance and for the stability and maturity of the platform, although we will delve into it later. In this analysis we are also going to focus on assessing both the design and the quality of the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E finishes, its features and its positioning within the range in which it is located.

As those of you who read us daily know, the motherboard is a fundamental component not only for the proper functioning of the equipment, but also for its stability, to maximize its useful life and to enjoy a state-of-the-art user experience and a good performance . An unsuitable motherboard can limit component performance, reduce expandability, and even cause problems if you want to connect a lot of peripherals, as you might not have enough USB ports.

High-end motherboards offer a differential value in terms of performance, design and build quality , and are prepared to work optimally and totally stable with the most powerful and most demanding processors of the moment. The GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E is undoubtedly a good example, as we will see below. Without further ado, I invite you to make yourself comfortable, since we have many things to read.

GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E: unboxing and first acquaintance

The GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E comes in a box with a premium design that already denotes that we are dealing with a high-end motherboard. As soon as you take it out of the box, its high build quality and the care that GIGABYTE has put into every detail are obvious, although the passive cooling blocks that cover both the chipsets and the slots for NVMe PCIe SSD drives stand out.

The design of this motherboard has a marked gaming character, but at the same time it is elegant and does not present any kind of shrillness, something that is undoubtedly appreciated. As expected, it comes perfectly protected, both by the bag that surrounds it and by the padding that surrounds it. It also has plastic sheets attached to key areas that we will have to remove before using it.

On the back we have a wide range of connections and the two sockets for the gain antennas that are compatible with Wi-Fi 6E, although we will talk about the list of connections later when we review its specifications. The overhead view of the image that you will find just below these lines allows us to see the board in all its splendor, and will allow you to better understand why we have said that the build quality of the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E is clear to the naked eye.

The passive cooling blocks that are bolted on can be easily removed. In total we have two, one located at the top of the first PCIe Gen5 slot, and another has four screws and is located just below it. In the first we have an M.2 slot and in the second area we have three M.2 slots, as we can see in the attached image with both blocks disassembled. The disassembly and assembly process is extremely simple, there is no mystery beyond removing and replacing the screws.

Thanks to the passive cooling system for M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs that the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E integrates, we will be able to reduce the temperature of these units , which will result in higher sustained performance, and can help us avoid stability problems that would occur if the temperatures were not under control.

On the right side we can see six SATA III connectors, SmartFan connectors, the reset button and the PCIe EZ-Latch Plus, which allows us to release the graphics card lock, something that is certainly appreciated since we do not have enough space to do it the traditional way. Quite a success by GIGABYTE.

Just above it is the power button, the 24-pin ATX connector and different four-pin connectors that will be used mainly by the CPU fan that we are going to use, or the pump in the case of an AIO liquid cooling kit. Just below we have four DIMM slots for DDR5 RAM,  and each of them is reinforced.

The GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E integrates AMD’s new AM5 socket, which maintains the pressure retention system, and is fully compatible with AM4 cooling systems. As we can see, it is surrounded by a robust passive cooling system with nanocarbon coating, which uses touch pads with improved conductivity and covers the entire VRM. And speaking of the VRM, the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E has a spectacular configuration, as it uses a 105 amp 16+2+2 phase fully digital power system.

The GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E PCB is made of 8 layers of copper , each containing twice as much copper, providing superior structural strength. Going back to the bottom right we can see the area where the dual X670E chipset is located, and the passive cooling system that GIGABYTE has placed on them. We also have the classic USB pin connectors for peripherals and for the connectors and buttons interface of the chassis.

The PCIe Gen5 slot is reinforced with a metallic finish that is part of the Ultra Durable finish that GIGABYTE has used on this motherboard, and as our regular readers will know, it is a guarantee of quality and good workmanship. That is the only reinforced slot for a very simple reason, it is the one that we must use to connect the graphics card, since it is the one that works in PCIe Gen5 x16 mode.

From the isometric perspective we can see more keys of the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E. In the lower part we have two other slots, one PCIe Gen4 x4 and another PCIe Gen3 x2 , and just on the left we have the capacitors and the sound system, which is based on the Realtek ALC1220-VB codec and allows us to enjoy 7.1 sound and supports DTS-X Ultra.

If we look from the side we see that the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E is mounted on a metal back plate . Turning it over we can appreciate it in more detail, its role is as simple as it is important, it provides structural solidity to the board, something essential considering the size and weight of new generation graphics cards, and also contributes to reducing the noise and interference, especially in the memory area.

Excellent work by GIGABYTE in this regard, and yet another example of the build quality of this board.

We return to the area of ​​the M.2 slots for a moment to show you them in more detail, and to detail their key specifications. The first two use the PCIe Gen5 x4 standard , which means they can achieve a bandwidth of up to 16 GB/s, and the bottom two use the PCIe Gen4 x4 standard , which means they have a maximum bandwidth of 8GB/s This means that the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E is ready to take advantage of the new generation SSD drives that are yet to come, and thanks to its Thermal Guard passive cooling system, they will be able to work at full power without heat being an issue.

Finally, we take a look at the LGA1178 socket, which, as we anticipated, uses the pressure clamping system and says goodbye to the pin matrix interface used by AMD’s Ryzen 5000, based on the AM4 socket.

GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E – User Experience

The installation process has no mystery. If you’ve mounted a motherboard before it doesn’t change a thing, as GIGABYTE has taken great care that the metal back plate doesn’t affect it in the least . If you have never assembled a motherboard, do not worry, it is very easy, you just have to place the risers on the chassis so that they coincide with the corresponding spaces for this motherboard, which as we indicated is E-ATX, place it on top by squaring the plate spaces and screw it.

As I told you in the article dedicated to the review of the Ryzen 9 7900X and Ryzen 5 7600X the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E came with a pre-production BIOS , which means that I had to update to a higher BIOS. After updating to that BIOS , the behavior of the motherboard was simply perfect , I did not have the slightest problem to activate with a simple click the G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo memories using the AMD EXPO profile through the BIOS, and the operation of the equipment was stable at all times.

During the entire process of reviewing the new AMD processors I did not experience the slightest problem, the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E showed absolute stability and this allowed me to work at a good pace and with complete confidence. This was fundamental and made a big difference, since it was going against the clock to be able to reach September 26. Regarding the battery of tests, you already saw in the Ryzen review that it was very extensive, and that it included very varied and demanding tests, such as the AIDA64 stress test, Cinebench R23 and new generation games.

With a simple click we can load the AMD EXPO profile and overclock the RAM, and on the right side we have different options, such as loading optimized settings by default, Q-Flash to easily update the BIOS and advanced mode , which will take us to the most extensive interface with the greatest number of settings and options.

The BIOS update process is very easy thanks to Q-Flash.

The test rig we used with the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E consisted of nothing but high-end components, and this motherboard consistently showed that it could move them without breaking a sweat . As I said, the stability was total, it has plenty of room to move even an overclocked Ryzen 9 7950X and the passive cooling system it mounts is so competent that the VRM stays, on average, between 68 and 75 degrees Celsius with said processor .

After spending several weeks with the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E, and after using it for many hours, it is clear to me that it is a state-of-the-art motherboard designed for those who want it all , and that is that it not only has an exquisite design and build quality of first level, but it is also prepared to optimally cover the needs of any type of user, even the most demanding.

The GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E offers full support for AMD’s AM5 platform , and it does so in a big way, delivering PCIe Gen5 for both graphics and two M.2 SSDs, and maximizing storage options. storage with another two M.2 PCIe Gen4 X4 connectors and six SATA III connectors. It also offers a wide range of connectors, has a high-quality integrated sound system and integrates two high-performance network solutions that will allow us to enjoy a 2.5 Gbps connection, in case we opt for the cable , and of the Wi-Fi 6E standard if we decide to use a wireless connection.

The power system is so abundant that even with a top-of-the-range configuration we will not have any kind of problem, and we will not have to worry about the working temperatures of any component thanks to the set of passive cooling systems that the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E includes . As I have already mentioned, stability is not a problem either, since this board comes with a BIOS that is perfectly polished , which translates into a perfect and seamless user experience.

The icing on the cake is provided by details such as the PCIe EZ-Latch Plus switch , which greatly improves the user experience by facilitating the removal of the graphics card, support for RAM memory with Intel XMP and AMD EXPO profiles, which will not force us to having to choose and it will make our lives easier, the customization options of the RGB LED lighting system and the GIGABYTE Control Center, which allows us to access different performance and fan control options. Undoubtedly one of the best X670E boards that we can find on the market within its range. We have not confirmed the price, but it should be around 550 euros.
