Frostpunk: The Last Autumn walkthrough and guide

Frostpunk’s Ultimate Fall Walkthrough Guide: An Overview of Laws, Buildings, and New Features

The Last Autumn is the latest story- driven expansion to the Frostpunk strategy, which follows the events leading up to the global cooling. You are the project manager 113. Your task is to build a generator for the further evacuation of Liverpool. Many new mechanics appear in the game, which we will talk about below.

Basic buildings

This is the name of the first storyline task, according to which you are asked to build a pier, start collecting resources from it and create a fishing pier with a blank camp. Many new buildings have appeared in the game, but several old ones are missing.

Official trailer

The stock camp (or stock base) will allow you to send out expeditions. The ones that you used in the main game. However, on one base of blanks, you can create exactly one expedition. In the future, you can research two improvements that allow you to build two more bases and, accordingly, create two additional expeditions. By sending expeditions to the Frozen Wasteland, you can find resources or places to get them. The latter will provide an influx of certain resources (usually food), but after a while they will be depleted.

Your base is on the shore. And there are four places for the construction of marinas – both ordinary and fishing. Regular marinas allow you to receive ships with resources, while you can specify only one of the desired resources – wood, steel, coal. The pier only takes resources. They are stacked next to it, so collection points will be needed additionally. In the future, you can unlock an improvement that allows you to rebuild reload stations on the dock, which will greatly simplify the task. Fishermen’s wharves are used for catching fish: obtaining raw food for further cooking ready in the kitchen.

Having created all these buildings, you will receive your first task related to the construction of a generator. Unlike the original game, only a limited number of buildings can be built near the generator. We will consider them in a separate paragraph.

How to get resources?

You still need four types of basic resources: coal, wood, steel, and steam cores. You can add food to them. However, new resources also appear that are used to build a generator. Again, we will talk about them separately. At the very beginning of the game, there are two piles of wood, steel and one pile of steam cores scattered around the generator. You can build collection points and then dismantle them when the resources are removed.

You can use docks and sawmills to extract timber . The latter are placed among the trees. Steel can only be obtained from the pier. Coal – from the dock and coal stove (converts wood to coal). Food is obtained from the wasteland map: you must send an expedition, find a suitable place and build an outpost there (from the same expedition). You can also use the fishing piers to get food.

To get steam cores, you will need to order them from London. For this it is necessary to build a telegraph station. Over time, logistics points will appear, depending on which you will be able to get workers, engineers, steam cores or prostheses. For example, an engineer will cost more than a worker.

Discontent and motivation

You have two main scales – dissatisfaction and motivation. In order to lower the former and increase the latter, you will have to pass various laws and rebuild suitable buildings. Among them are a pub, a temple, a care home, a pleasure house, and so on. It is easy to see that the scale of motivation consists of three parts. The middle part is the usual level of motivation, the left one is lowered, the right one is increased. That is, the left and right sides will either reduce or increase the efficiency of workers and engineers.

Book of laws

The book of laws has also undergone changes. You will have two of them: “Administration” and “Working conditions”. The first is available from the very beginning, and of all the laws, the following are binding (if you, of course, want to get the best ending):

  • Bath
  • Comfortable accommodation
  • Life support
  • Double rations for sick
  • Guardianship house
  • Supply of prostheses
  • Improved soldering
  • A pub
  • House of Pleasure
  • Fist fights
  • Prayer house
  • Evening service
  • Repatriation of the dead
  • Funeral at the expense of the company

As for the book of laws “Working conditions”, then its first part opens at the beginning of the second stage of the construction of the generator. Its content does not depend on anything, and the laws issued are aimed at obtaining different operating modes (increasing safety, reducing or increasing the duration of the shift). A little later, a conflict will arise between workers and engineers, and you will have to accept one side. If you choose workers, then you will go along the branch of creating a trade union, people’s militia, and all the way (if you want) to the terror associated with the construction of the scaffold and carrying out daily executions in order to prevent a riot.

Generator construction

This is your main task, and it will be divided into three stages. At each stage, you will be asked to create a new resource building. The metalwork plant produces metal profiles. And they are needed not only for the construction of some parts of the generator, but also for the creation of special protective devices (for a while) that increase labor safety. The machine shop produces steam radiators, five of which can come in handy if you pass a law to speed up construction: one application will increase construction progress by 20% no matter what stage you are in.

Foundry allows you to create a steel alloy. You will need it to create the final parts of the generator. Of the new buildings associated with the generator, there is one more: the ventilation unit. Several such installations can be built, and they are designed to protect workers from poisoning by poisonous gas that rises from the depths of the earth. The gas issue will be fixed after you finish building the core. Ideally, a foundry, a machine shop and a steelworks plant, as well as three ventilation units, should be located around the generator.

At each stage of the construction of the core, you will need to create resources on one, two or three of the listed objects at once, then in the “Generator” construction section, select the desired part and place it on the pit. Then a group of workers – from 15 to 50 people – will have to be assigned to the construction of each such unit. The higher the motivation and the more workers will be devoted to construction, the less time it will take to complete the project.

After three steps, you will need to build a two-piece shroud. The game will then ask you to leave object 113, but there will be a second option: stay to improve the generator. In the second case, all that is required of you is to carry out three studies, which consume a new type of resources.

Workers or engineers?

An Important Moral Choice

Perhaps this is the main and most important choice in the game. If you decide to support the workers, a branch will open with laws that at first seem fair, and later lead to the infringement of the rights of engineers. If you go to the very end, you will be able to activate the “Terror”: for this you will have to create a scaffold near the generator, on which 1 rebel person will be hung every day in order to avoid further strikes.

If you support engineers, you can get a completely new class – prisoners . They are cheap labor (that is, more prisoners can be ordered through the telegraph station than ordinary workers), but they need supervision. With all the ensuing consequences. There is also a gradual infringement of rights, since at first you open up the opportunity to create 5 engineers out of 5 workers, and then carry out raids so that 15 random workers turn into convicts. And the pinnacle of all this will be the creation of a freak show prison.

The latest law by the engineer branch

How do you get the best ending?

At the end of the game, you will see the results of your work. You will be told what buildings and laws you used to achieve the end result. And the best ending in this regard seems to be one: the absence of victims. To avoid casualties, you must give up brute force, constantly meet the workers, negotiate with them and satisfy their conditions. Also, you should not follow any branch (engineers or workers) laws to the very end. Otherwise, you will automatically sign your own verdict. Only the bottom of the new branch is useful and non-infringing. I managed to get the best ending for the Engineer tree. At the same time, it is imperative to agree with the workers who ask for time off in order to find the leader of the strikes. And then punish the observer who confessed to killing this leader. His death will not be counted!

Other Tips

  • Issue any laws that are beneficial, and the need to build a building is indicated as the only minus.
  • Be morally guided in any decisions. If you are kind to people, you can get a better ending.
  • Build buildings wherever you want, because there will be no cold problems throughout the game (only at the very end, and they are insignificant).
  • Only create tents if you really need them. And to make it easier to navigate, take, for example, the lower part (opposite from the sea) to a residential town, the right – buildings that increase morale and reduce discontent, the left – everything else.
  • The yellow bar with percentages above the production buildings shows the overall efficiency. Standard efficiency without any modifiers when all workers are present is 100%. You will receive another 27% with high motivation. Also, some efficiency improvements can be obtained through research in the workshop.
  • One kitchen is enough for you.
  • The only way to get new people is by sending a telegram from the telegraph station. Occasionally you will find people in the wasteland.
  • By clicking on the ventilation unit, you will see that the buildings standing nearby are also highlighted. Inside the pop-up window, you will see the current level of poison gas infection.
  • If you want to quickly find engineers or workers in buildings, then select the building to which you want to add certain people, and hover the mouse cursor over the inscription in the window on the right, where you adjust the number of workers / engineers.
  • Be sure to set up double shifts, and at the same time issue the following law, which will reduce the requirements (the number of workers / engineers will need to be increased not 2, but 1.5 times).
  • Wood can be obtained from sawmills, so docks should be used primarily for steel. Coal can be crafted in coal stoves from the same wood, and you order steam cores through the telegraph station.
