Fix; I can’t hear the other person on my iPhone

Users of Apple mobile devices sometimes have a situation where they can’t hear the person they’re talking to on their iPhone. In some cases, the cause of the problem is connection problems – just wait a while for the sound to return to normal.

But if the problem of poor audibility during a call is observed regularly, then the causes of the malfunction should be sought in the phone itself. In most cases, they can be fixed with your own hands.

When you can’t hear the other person, the first thing you need to do is make sure that the volume hasn’t been lowered by hardware, by accidentally pressing the side button.

Why can’t I hear the other person on my iPhone and what can I do?

Most often, the problem is observed when the speaker is faulty. This part of the smartphone is one of the most vulnerable. The main reasons for the speaker failure in the iPhone are the following:

  • moisture getting inside,
  • a fall of the mobile device or a strong impact,
  • breakage of tracks and contacts of the sound card.

The first thing to do when the sound in the speaker has become quieter or has disappeared is to carefully clean the speaker’s protective mesh with a stream of compressed air or cotton wool. If this does not help, you may have to replace the speaker in the iPhone.

When falling or hitting your smartphone, the contacts on the sound board may be damaged, which leads to incorrect operation of not only the speaker, but also the microphone. In this case, you will have difficulty hearing the other person during a conversation, and they may not hear you at all.

If you cannot hear the caller on the phone, or the sound in the speaker constantly “floats” during the conversation, the cause of the breakdown may be in the earpiece cable. The flat connecting cable may oxidize or break, and then you will not hear the caller during the conversation.

To fix the problem, you need to replace the cable on the iPhone using a special screwdriver and the original spare part, but this is quite a difficult task for a person unfamiliar with the device.

Quiet conversation sound is often the result of a faulty modem in a new phone.

t is very easy to determine that the problem is in the modem. If your smartphone does not catch the network or does not connect to the Internet, then most likely this is caused by damage to this module. It is not recommended to repair or replace this part yourself, since careless actions can lead to more serious damage.

Sometimes the problem may lie not in the hardware, but in the software. For example, you recently installed some program, after which you began to experience interruptions in audibility when making a call. The solution is to remove this program.

The phone’s “glitch” may consist of freezing in headphone mode. In this case, the gadget needs to be rebooted. If portable speakers were connected to the device, try connecting them again, then disconnecting them and also rebooting the smartphone.

Finally, there are two more methods that help to fix most software problems.

System update. Make sure that the latest version of iOS is downloaded to your smartphone. It is better to update it automatically by checking the box in the corresponding settings item – often with the release of updates, recently appeared “glitches” are removed. Regularly clear the RAM and reboot the device – this will also help to avoid many problems.

Resetting your iPhone to factory settings. This can be done using a computer with the latest version of iTunes installed. Make a backup copy first, as your data (photos, videos, etc.) will not be saved.

Then:

  • connect your smartphone to your computer,
  • select your device when it appears on the screen,
  • Click on the “Restore iPhone” button.

The program will ask you to confirm the action. Click “Restore” again. After that, the factory settings will be restored, the smartphone will reboot.

You can reset without a computer. You can do this in the smartphone settings by selecting General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. The device will ask you to enter your Apple ID passcode or password. After that, the data will be deleted, which will take several minutes.
