FEAR OF DYING: WHAT IT IS AND HOW TO DEAL WITH IT

The fear of death has always haunted us. It is in fact an ancestral fear, as it is an event intrinsically linked to life, from which it is not possible to escape.
It is often elicited by contingent conditions, such as the onset of an illness, or the loss of a loved one. In any case it is an exquisitely existential condition, inherent in existence, with which sooner or later we are all called to deal.

How it manifests itself

There are those who express it openly and those who manifest it indirectly, perhaps through a symptom that apparently has nothing to do with it, such as excessive control over loved ones or the avoidance of certain situations that could lead to think about death.
Starting from the assumption that it is absolutely legitimate to be afraid of death, it could be useful to “re-educate” oneself to the concept of death itself.

The first steps to overcome the fear of dying

It is therefore preferable to avoid chasing away the fear of death at any cost, but rather to begin to familiarize and accept the dimension of one’s own mortality.
Accepting this idea can encourage the creation of some positive alternatives.

Some ideas to go beyond the fear of death

Realizing your life
Many live in a state of deep despair because their dreams have not come true. Focusing attention on this deep dissatisfaction, trying to get busy to make your dreams come true, is often the starting point for overcoming the anguish of death.

The “circles in the water”
Then there is the idea of the “circles in the water”. This image refers to the fact that each of us creates, even without realizing it, concentric circles of influences that can influence others for years, and thus leave a mark of their presence.

Empathy and connection
Empathy is the most powerful tool we have to connect with other people, it is the glue of human connection. Sharing experiences are the best antidote to loneliness and the fear of death.

This short article does not want to be a compendium of reflection on death, but aims to bring attention to an existential problem, which grips many of us, which can be faced with curiosity and hope, trying to bring attention on the development of solutions that allow you to live as serenely as possible
