Deathclaws in Fallout are elite enemies that are very difficult to defeat, even with a pumped-up hero. New Vegas is no exception. Many users wonder how to destroy these monsters, especially if there are many of them. Today we will try to answer this question with a couple of tips.
What types of death claws are there?
Like many other inhabitants of the wastelands, these enemies are divided into species.
Normal individuals have high perception, high HP, and powerful attacks. They make up the vast majority of their kind.
Alpha males, on the other hand, are distinguished by their dark coloring and enlarged horns, and also have scars on their bodies. At the same time, they inflict damage twice as great as that of normal death claws.
The baby is the least dangerous enemy along with the young. Despite this, players are advised to be on guard, as the mother is usually wandering around.
The legendary Deathclaw has maximum health, huge damage, and excellent mobility. It is very difficult to fight against.
The queen, in turn, is distinguished by a gray-green color and has spikes on her tail. She, as already noted, protects her offspring, and if the gamer attempts on the life of the cub, she will fall into a rage, which significantly increases the speed of movement.
You can also encounter blind deathclaws in the vastness of Fallout: New Vegas. Despite belonging to this species, you should not think that the enemy will not detect the gamer by looking at him point-blank. Their perception is also high, and in strength and dexterity, the creatures are no different from ordinary ones.
Where the Deathclaws Live
Enemies can be encountered in a large number of Mojave territories. However, there are certain locations that are suitable for hunting these powerful opponents. Thus, the deathclaws have definitely chosen the quarry, which can be accessed at the very beginning of the game. This place is located next to Sloan, where the gamer can learn more about the monsters. In addition, it is there that the Courier will receive a task to destroy dangerous creatures from Chowk Lewis.
The second location will be the Deadwind Cave, which hides the legendary Deathclaw. The gamer can drop in here for eggs as part of the quest from Red Lucy “Take it all”.
The freight depot will also be a challenge for an unprepared traveler. As in the case of the quarry, the location with open terrain will require a special approach, because it is very difficult to hide from an attack of a pack of deathclaws here.
The name “Deathclaw Cape” speaks for itself. After swimming across the river to the east of the Lucky Jim mine, the player will find himself in a lair of monsters . Fortunately, the terrain allows for various tactical moves, because there are really a lot of deathclaws here.
And finally, the Primm Pass, which allows you to greatly shorten the path from the location of the same name to Novak. Naturally, you will have to pay for saving time and effort by meeting the deathclaws.

Combat tactics
In fact, there is no universal combat tactic when meeting with deathclaws. However, there are tips that will help you deal with the enemy with the least losses.
First of all, I would like to recall the words of Chowk Lewis from Sloan. He warned about the power of the creatures and was the first to recommend eliminating the most dangerous species (leaders). These, naturally, include alpha males (the legendary claw) and queens.
Gamers who decide to confront elite opponents should choose a powerful weapon. It can be purchased or found in the wasteland. Powerful rifles with optics for shooting enemies from afar and, for example, if you have the Wild Wasteland feature, an Alien blaster (will help in unforeseen situations) are suitable.

It’s also a good idea to have a stealth boy with you, but you don’t have to worry about armor. It won’t save you in close combat anyway.
Speaking of companions, they will constantly fall (lose consciousness), but can be of great help in tactical terms. If the deathclaws target companions, the Courier will have some time to fire accurately and move to a safer place.
Now a little about how best to behave when meeting with deathclaws. First, it is worth examining the location from afar. This will allow you to find positions where enemies cannot climb (there are reliable shelters even in caves). Due to the peculiarities of the game, monsters are not very good at climbing high places, and this can become a gamer’s trump card.
Having found a safe spot, you need to use the stealth boy and get there. Then, in stealth mode, you will have to shoot enemies with a rifle and put it away after each attempt to hit the head, so that the opponents cannot find the Courier. If the monsters fail to reach the hero, then it is not necessary to fire with the stealth boy. The enemies will simply rush around chaotically in search of an obstacle on the way to the Courier and will act as targets.
An important aspect of taking down Deathclaws is the ability to lure out enemies one by one. This tactic will be successful if there are no high ground or cover nearby.
And finally, I would like to remind you that close combat with deathclaws is a crazy idea. Therefore, caution, stealth and accuracy are the main trump cards of the gamer on the path to success.
What can you get for deathclaws
Defeating the deathclaws means you’ll likely get a nice reward. The paws and eggs can be sold for a lot of money.
In addition to everything else, in locations with elite enemies there may be bodies of some characters from whom you can take armor and even unique weapons.
Naturally, the Courier will not leave without receiving experience points. Therefore, on the claws of death, the hero’s leveling will go much faster.
